Cloning the Clones?

Take a look at this. LegoFrank brought it up while I was on BL chat.

Ok... now I totally believe in the theory that MegaBloks has infiltrated Lego.   :x :x :x

Nah,

I think they enjoy the rants they create by not catering to the building community. Right now there is probably someone sitting back and laughing at our futile gestures right now.

This has been a common thing for Lego as of late. I'll point out that it was MegaBloks that first had extreme sports sets. It was also MegaBloks that first had soccer and hockey sets as well, and maybe even basketball.

Well... in that case Lego came out with castles sets that had dragons (Dragon Masters) long before MegaBlok: Dragons even appeared.

Perhaps,

but the Megabloks Dragon line has very few similarities to the Dragon Masters line. Whereas many of the Lego sets that copy Megablok ideas seem much closer to being a direct rip off. And in some cases like the Knight pictured in the above post, the Megablok sets actually looks better.

It is a scary world when the clone brands do a better job of set design than the Brand they were created to emulate.

I think that LEGO is giving mega-bloks a taste of their own medicine. mega-bloks copied LEGO's design, so now LEGO is copying mega-bloks' ideas. Some say turnabout is fair play . . . .

True... BUT, why must LEGO copy (what I think) are the worst designs? I really do think the Megablock set looks better than the LEGO ones.

If LEGO did something akin to MB's dragons line, I'd be all over castle again. No questions asked, my SW LEGO would get very jealous indeed.

 what a shame, I'd buy the Megablocks knight thing before I'd buy the Castlonical (or whatever we're calling that God-forasken <HEY! Watch your language!> nowadays).

Hello!

But those Megabloks sets and parts do not leave room for imagination. That's why so many LEGO parts (the dragon for example) look so simple. It's not the strong storyline (that requests in their look defined parts) but the possibility to also build anything else with the parts what LEGO is (was :( ) mainly meant for.
Just imagine . · °

That, and the quality of MegaBloks is complete and utter garbage.

If they ever get their quality control to a decent level, they would pose a more serious threat then they already do.

Problem is, most parents and kids don't know / don't care about the quality issue, atleast not until after they have purchased the MegaBloks sets.

when that knight/robot came out I almost purchased him. But then I came to my senses and realized "hey - Lego will probably copy that and do a poor job. I'll just get that one instead."
whew - dodged that bullet
