This week’s set is 6011 Black Knight’s Treasure.

Black Knight’s Treasure, released in 1985, was a treasure cart for the Black Falcons. It has one falcon cart driver, a horse, and accessories. This is the only set with the rare light gray treasure chest.

Very interesting. I've never even seen this set before. I like the fact that they included the saddle, not to many sets have that these days.

The Light Grey chest is sweet. :)

Oh my god!!!
I am pretty sure this was my first castle set ever. I remember playing with it so much!!!
I opened and closed the trunk so many times that at the end it was not possible anymore to keep it together: the cover was always falling.

That was a great set, we saw many carts after that but this has a special place in my heart.

I second everything you said :) It also brings back memories of going out with my Mum and getting this set.

This set was before my time--literally: it came out two years before I did! It's also a set that I've never acquired or had the pleasure of knowing in person, but it's a simple enough set that I don't think I'm missing much of the experience.

This set really illustrates the changes that have taken place in LEGO since the mid-1980s. The closest set in the 2010-11 Kingdoms theme was 7949 Prison Carriage Rescue. The differences are illustrative. Ignoring for a moment the extra figs from the enemy faction, the two sets are somewhat similar: two-wheeled carts pulled by a single horse, but look at all the pieces on the Kingdoms cart that didn't even exist in 1985: cheese slopes, headstalls, unicorn horns--to say nothing of the colours!

While, in the main, this does indicate progress on LEGO's part--a company that stands still is unlikely to continue to make a profit--but the new set does lack something the old one does in the charm department. But for having a little more black in their uniform there is NOTHING to indicate that the Falcons were the bad guys in the 1980s. Certainly, the smiley face did not suggest they were all that bad. In general, I think the newer pieces do mean that the Kingdoms cart is the superior build, but I miss the day when a cart did not have to be a prison carriage or battle chariot to merit inclusion in a set (to be fair to Kingdoms, the King's carriage is neither). There's also something heavily nostalgia about knowing that this light grey treasure chest was an exclusive rarity in a world that would be dominated until 1998 by brown chests only. Today we have gold chests and trans-dark-pink chests and they don't have the same cachet that this simple chest had in "the good old days."

All told, this isn't a remarkable set... but it is one simply loaded with nostalgia, and one that I think would have been rather fun on its own (of course, I might be biased by Lord_Of_The_LEGO's Lone Falcon Chronicles.

Hey,

I'm going to buck the trend and say mixed review on this one:

I love the classic BF, and as a simple source of a guy, a horse, and a weapon this is great. It's wonderful that the horse has both a harness and a saddle, so this gets high marks for playability. Kind of odd that the saddle just kind of hangs out there in space at the back of the cart, though. My negative vibe comes from the utter simplicity of the cart build. I suppose that is par for the course for a polybag, though, so maybe I shouldn't complain.

It's a great little set, very simply made but works to great effect. The only thing that this set is missing is .. treasure! Why is the Falcon soldier transporting an empty chest? Have the contents been stolen? Or has he stolen an empty chest?
It could have done with a few little yellow parts inside the chest.

Interesting, I hadn't heard of this set before either, I wasn't even aware that a light gray chest existed. I wish you could still get a harness and saddle in modern sets.

Not bad. Love that they included a saddle.

The gray treasure chest is cool too. :D

Thing is, there's no detail at all.

my 5yo brother could build that, how could someone get paid to build this???

I'm not the greatest fan of old sets, LOL!

I was 5 years old when this set was released but it was one that never made it into my collection until a few years ago. I picked up 2 of these sets on ebay. The grey treasure chest makes it unique. There were lots of these little cart sets in the 80s. Other similar sets include 6023 Maidens Cart, 6010 Supply Wagon, 6022 Horse Cart and 6016 Knights Arsenal. When you have all these lined up it makes for a very nice vintage display. :)

I vaguely remember when it came out. i really like the grey chest, but besides that, it is pretty ordinary.

Not a horrible set but not a great one. It is really only memorable because the light gray chest was a big deal at the time. It is kind of odd how special colored pieces were a really big thing not that many years ago, but you don't hear about them now. Apparently people aren't currently into the rarer colors and such right now. Or maybe I just don't hear about it.

I think certain parts are still sought after in "rare" colors, like the dark green hood that's coming out, but the advent of Bricklink makes getting just about anything pretty easy, so maybe people just don't freak out about it like they used to anymore.
