Hmm...'m guessing that it's only the picture. I don't think lego would let that happen besides the pictures go another little bit of weird in it. The ork with the armor his are is in a position that can't be done so that would make two things in the picture that could be slight "misprints" on the box. My guess is the hair piece will look better in person.

Good point about the arm position, PW.

In this picture, it looks like the ear might be in a more "normal position", particularly when you compare the ear position to that of the dark-haired elf in the foreground.

I won't say how many times I went to brickset just to see if these pictures had been put up yet, but I was practically bubbling with anticipation for this new series. I'm happy to say that for the most part, I was not disappointed. Personally, the the Dol-Guldur sets were neither here nor there for me. They have some nice figs, but the actual sets don't really appeal to me all that much, certainly not at the projected price.

But that Mirkwood Elf set...oh yes. Very much yes.

Six minifigures (all of which look awesome, and I've never been a fan of orcs before), a new warg (whose color I prefer to other two), and some nice leaf parts and other assorted pieces. These facts alone would be a pretty much instant seller for me, but add to that the fairly reasonable price tag, and you can bet I'll be buying as many of these as possible.
The Lake-Town chase also looks appealing, although I'm not entirely sold on that set yet. Very nice pieces (and some key figures), but the price seems a bit inflated, IMO. $50 isn't terrible, but I feel like one more figure (another lake town guard, or dwarf) would have helped justify that price for me. As it stands, I'm undecided on this set, but I might just spring for it.

I'm surprised and a bit disappointed they didn't come out with a ten dollar set (Beorn's set is projected at around 20$ I think). Another small Dol-Guldur or Lake-town set would have fit in nicely, I think. But hey, you can't get everything you want. Overall this release was satisfactory for me, and I look forward to the next Lotr series!

I don't think that headpiece is a misprint. If you look at the action scene in the bottom left hand corner, his ears are in the exact same position. Thoughts?

Yeah the ear looks a little weird... But it's a small enough misfortune that I actually didn't notice it before it was pointed out. But yeah looks quite strange. It does look better from some angles then others though, so the only way to really be sure about it is just to get it in person. Any piece can look better or worse depending on the angle of the shot. All the same, even if the ears are a tad low, the piece is cool enough overall that I will still definitely use it. Not sure if I would like it better if the crown was omitted and the ears made higher, verse the crown plus low ears. I don't know... At least they are above his neck.

You can always keep the headpiece on looser to keep the ears higher though, if you want. Still a bit disappointing, but not enough to dampen my enthusiasm for the set.

For those of you who can't get the desired level of zoom in on the new sets, I took some close ups. What do you think about the new minifigs? The picture limit is 4. Follow the pics to my flickr to see more.

I'm tempted by the elf army set for its minifigs and warg, but the price is a bit daunting. I think I'll wait until it's discounted by at least 20% at Amazon or Argos.

Thanks for sharing some close-up shots SSchmidt. I like the Mirkwood Elf Army set, but the wall looks kinda funky to me. Maybe it's the design and height, I'm not sure. But the minifigs more than make up for it, so I'll probably end up grabbing a few.

Most likely you can get them late November and they will become easily available in early december... Just a guess, kinda like last year. :)

Lol priceless.

It looks like the ears on the elf really are that low (incredibly lame). I imagine what Ferretclaw says about when we see them is accurate. We can probably expect Toys R Us to have them on their shelves a little earlier than everyone else. That seems to be the general trend.

I'm definitely going to try to pick up the lake town chase, that one looks the most appealing to me. $50 for 470 pieces isn't too bad. Also, as with everyone else, the elf army. I regret not quickly grabbing the uruk hai army, and now it's not available. These look pretty great.
