I got the Mirkwood Elf Army set as well, and it is definitely awesome! I agree, the orcs, are ok, but the elves are amazing! They are a little to similar for my liking, but otherwise wonderful. The 2 dark green hoods was a definite bonus for me!

All, what are your thoughts on the laketown guard figs?

I'm feeling drawn to mustering an army of them.

I've picked up a few of them but haven't opened the polybag yet! :P

I think they look neat, but the helmet is a little too over-the-top for me to want a whole army of them. I think as elite guards they will be OK though.

My exact thoughts! I think the minifigure has a great look and design, but isn't a fig I would want (or spend the money) to have an army of them.

I haven't, but from the box art it looks like it is going to be the same figure that comes in the Mirkwood Spiders set, which means that you can get them from BL for about $4 each. Based on this picture, I wouldn't pay much more than MSRP of $4.99 for one of them.

I like the Laketown Guard all right. I have 11 polybags, and am debating on how many keeping and how many (if any) I might sell. As others have stated, I think the helm is a bit over the top. As far as MOCing with the fig, I have tried including the Laketown helm on a Garhim (LCC) fig but I couldn't find anything to suit my liking.

As AK stated, he definitely is more suited toward a Royal guard position (or that is just my thought at any rate).

I have put together one Laketown Guard polybag, 2 Mirkwood Elf Army sets and 1 Dol Guldur. I can honestly say Dol Guldur did not impress me in the slightest. The playability features were nice but that was about it. Beorn's head is just such a major let down. The head and hair should be two separate pieces. I had planned on keeping the set intact until I got DG battle, but I have already scrapped it.

Anyone else put any of the sets together?

I really like them! I would like to have a pretty large number of them! I doubt I will be able to get many though.

I really like the torso so I can upgrade some Danju soldiers but that's all that interest me.

I picked up the Dol Guldur battle from amazon (it's 30% off if anyone is interested) and I was not really impressed with it. Neither the model or the parts really struck me as worth it. The minifigures hardly do anything for it, either. This propensity for new hat/hair is really not my thing.

Lego really seems to have had a misfire with this set (and I kind of feel with this whole DoS line). I understand making ruins is hard. But they should have done something else for the big set of the line. Beorn's house maybe?
