Weird thing about DOS sets/review

Guys, today I went and saw The Desolation of Smaug, which by the way was epic. Peter Jackson nailed it. There were a few more departures from the book than I would've liked, but I guess it's justified by the fact that if it's the same as the book, you'll know exactly what happens all the time. Go see it. But, anyway, the weird thing is, (slight spoiler alert) beorn never goes to dol guldur, so the set dol guldur ambush doesn't exist. Neither does Radagast, actually. But he accompanies Gandalf to the entrance, so I guess it's sort of valid that he is in the set dol guldur battle. But the other sets are pretty accurate, except that the elf vs orc fight was along the river (legolas is a boss. It's like he uses fighting to show off his parkour skills. Same thing in lotr.) And in lake town.

I loved the movie! I have quibbles, but I immediately left wanting to watch it again, whereas with AUJ, I felt a bit disappointed and not terribly interested in a second viewing.

About the sets:

Beorn not being at Dol Goldur! He's not even really in any action scenes to speak of, and is not going to be a selling point based on what we see of him in the film, no kid is going to be buying that set for him.

No hooded elves fighting the orcs! The battle at the wall was there, but the elves were armored and helmeted, or with hair. There was also a water-gate under the wall that might have made a nice play feature paired with the barrel escape set. For me that is an affirmation that they should have done a new helmet mold for MEA, instead of the using just the hoods. Maybe even put Thranduil in Dol Guldur Attack instead of Beorn. (reason being Thranduil at least kills an orc, where Beorn does nothing, and he would be a popular character)

We'd better get armored elved in next years sets!

Yes, those armored elves were very cool in the movie, but I'm actually kind of glad they included the hooded elves, because I can see those dark green hoods being used for a rangers apprentice moc. :sly: Maybe they should have replaced the generic elf with an armored one.

Yeah, I just got back from the movie too, and was pondering the fact that there's no boat chases in Laketown, either. :?

No, but they do get chased through Lake Town and use a boat to get there. so it kinda makes sense! ;)
I loved the film, but the whole Beorn/Dol Guldur thing is weird. Oh well!

I think that Lego should have included at least one armored Elf in the Mirkwood set, that way since people might end up getting multiple sets, they get two different types of Elf warriors.

Maybe Lego just wanted to get Beorn into a set even if it didn't fit with the movie...

Hey guys...we have many threads going on about these sets now. Could we please just keep the comments to the bigger one?

Then that discussion doesn't happen in sets. It happens in Medieval Life or Stories.

Oh ok, sorry, I didn't realize that. Thanks for the clarification!
