Since this is the case I will stick with forest ambush, untill these sets go on sale. Not enough out of the ordenary to pick up the packs. I think they are banking on the fact that the packs have the knights with armor that are only avaliable in more expensive sets. But it dosent seem worth it to me.

I'm not really suprised that lego is discontinuing the current castle theme. It wasn't that good in my opinion.

I think if the sets had five figs it would be okay but the fact it only has four makes it over priced. It's sad they only have four I meant eh older castle battle packs always had 5 figs.

Also amazon has forest ambush for 27% off. Gonna grab me one at some point.

I hope we do not have to wait long for some solid castle.

As previsouly stated I am hoping this was a place holder line. Most sets arnt horid from a parts stand point. And yes purple if it was 5 figs, or 4 with a more substantial extra parts equation, like a cart or something i could see spending the extra funds. As it is I will wait till they go on sale.

I mean heck even the 2013 pirates pack had only 4 for 14.99, but it had a crab, parrot, palm leaves treasure, printed map tile, bottle, etc. So it was more worth the 14.99.

The chrome gold bar is going for $1 on BL right now. Add four coins to that and you're probably looking at $1.50

Still, IMO, the four soldiers in the Forest Ambush at $12 USD is a better deal than four in the Battle Pack for $15 USD, chrome gold and armored knight notwithstanding. The one benefit is that you get a third torso style in the battle pack, for the Lion troops, at least. It's the 50/50 blue/white tunic one, which isn't in the Forest Ambush set.

Also consider the nice brown pieces, the dog, and all the plant pieces (quite a good variety) in Forest Ambush set. I think Forest Ambush is a great set, and have been happy to get almost 10 of them so far (probably my limit).

However I am quite interested in those battlepacks as well. I like the Garhim (I mean Lion  ) torsos in the battlepack. All three of them are very nice.

I agree, the forest ambush is a lot more worth it in terms of what you get for the price. $15 is a bit ridiculous for 4 figs and some treasure or a dumb little cart. For that price every fig should include a shield and better accessories, not just two with each being a different size. I know the dragon battle pack is definitely not worth it as you get three of the same figs and a dragon knight. The lion pack is a little more worth the money for the better variety.

Yeah AK, I noticed the one fig with the white and blue cloth torso (I think it's probably safe to call him an archer style fig with the leather strap around his torso) which only comes in more expensive sets than the forest ambush, however for only $5 more of the battle pack for the "Gold Getaway" you get the archer fig with another lion fig of the pack as well as a dragon soldier. As for obtaining knights, for $30 you get both style knights (with just a different helmet,) a "archer" fig and a dragon knight with a horse and barding and a ton of pieces (I was actually quite pleased with the gatehouse set)

In the end it all boils down to what each person is looking for. I know for a bit less you can pick up the same amount of figs with pieces or for a bit more you can get the rarer figs but if you're only going for a certain faction it is a decent way to go. I know I'll be picking up a Lion's pack or two for the variety but may stick with the forest ambush for dragon knights.

My only complaints about this line isn't the battle packs so much as two other things: shield amount and barding. After buying several sets it still doesn't feel like I have any shields for either faction, I could be wrong but I remember there being more per set with the older lines. Either way that is something that is greatly lacking and would actually be nice if they released a chess set for more shields. I also don't like the fact that the only time you can get the Lion's barding is in the $100 set whereas before you could get the good guys' barding in the bad guys' hideout set. I know I can get these on brick link and other secondary retailers but it would be nice to get them when I simply go to the store.

Look on Brick Sets and it looks like there is going to be a junior set. See here

It will probably have the newest faction for figs due to when it's coming out which is always good It most likely won't have very good piece selection but I may get it depending what the set will look like and who knows it may have some good pieces.

Thanks Purple Wolf :D , that is an interesting find there- I too wonder what will be in it- hopefully the newest faction but it could be possible we'll be seeing a dumbed down version of the King's Castle with similar figs...although I dont know how much more dumbed down you can get :tasty: Either way it'll be interesting to see. Hopefully its either a preview of the next faction or hopefully it'll have the rarer figs from the current Castle (like the king, knights, and wizard)

I think with the new addition of a Juniors set to the battle packs, we could potentially see a final goodbye/wrap up set to this line, hopefully with one of the new factions for next year or with more variety of what we have currently. :)

The lion and dragon packs can both be purchased at lego.com now, or your official lego store.

Here is the link to the lion and dragons respectively:

I see the battlepacks have been cut to four figs and a 'pointless' accessory!

I think forest ambush is by far the better deal. You get way better pieces and the same account of figs for less money. I will probably buy a second copy.

After purchasing the first three sets with multiples $11-> $30, I find that the Forest Ambush is a much better deal if you are looking for Dragon figures as the Forest ambush comes with basically all the variation you find in the Battle Pack minus the knight (and I guess you could say the ones with the brown leather straps on them but those are pretty unnoticeable).

Personally, I think the Lion's Battle Pack is more worth it for the money because it has more variety, with two of the figs being from the Forest Ambush and two from more expensive sets. I know its the same with the Dragons but with the Lions its more noticeable. Im still not a fan of only the 4 figs for the price but I know I'll be picking up some as I am really loving the 50/50 blue and white torso :D :D If anyone is wanting to trade or sell those just let me know 8)

My personal sentiments are that the castle packs should have at least one more fig.
However I don't think the accessories are "pointless" so to speak. The accessories give the battle packs playability, which is something TLG's target market desires. We may not be as interested in the playability features, but I can assure you, kids are.

And TLG must think these will sell good, or else I don't think they would have ever been produced. I do plan on getting some, but as I have stated before, I am one of the exceptions around here. I really love these two factions and want as many as possible. While the Lion pack has much more variety, I am quite fond of the dragon pack as well. I am army building the figures, and the breastplate and black knight helm that come in the dragon pack are a welcome bonus. Their prices have dropped considerably on bricklink, but for the longest time they were expensive.
