For me personally the limited offering for 2014 is a mixed blessing. I almost want to say, "I have enough of these two factions, bring on the next two factions." Given how the Kingdoms line ended, I made the assumption that 2013 would be the same. So when I purchased what sets/extra figures I would need I made sure not to put off buying until 2014. If the battle packs are the only Castle LEGO released in 2014, then one positive I can start saving up for the next factions in 2015(a guess on the release date).

I am hoping that this is not the new release pattern model for LEGO Castle. It would be nice to have new figures released in the second year to give us something to look forward to, an added incentive to purchase the second year sets. For me, the battle-packs are not needed as there no variation from figures already released. I realize that some of us are looking forward to them to add more figures. At least there are these sets in 2014 to let us know that we Castle fans are not forgotten.

However I don't think the accessories are "pointless" so to speak. The accessories give the battle packs playability, which is something TLG's target market desires. We may not be as interested in the playability features, but I can assure you, kids are.

And TLG must think these will sell good, or else I don't think they would have ever been produced. I do plan on getting some, but as I have stated before, I am one of the exceptions around here. I really love these two factions and want as many as possible. While the Lion pack has much more variety, I am quite fond of the dragon pack as well. I am army building the figures, and the breastplate and black knight helm that come in the dragon pack are a welcome bonus. Their prices have dropped considerably on bricklink, but for the longest time they were expensive.
I agree with you Schmidt, one more fig would have been better but I am looking forward to the treasure in the Lion's pack, I have yet to get any gold bars :eyebrows: I am also beginning to become an exception as well as I've been growing quite fond of the figs and am working on increasing my armies of both

Have you guys seen the new battlepacks yet? If so, have you noticed that the figs in the Dragon battlepack are from the Gatehouse Raid and the Forest Ambush? To me, it's clear taat LEGO are making these to use up spare pieces, which is no surprise!

Yes that was already pointed out but it's till sad I would of hoped they would of mixed it up a little bit. Really the only real up side to these battle packs are the Lion Knights one has chrome gold pieces which are less common and does not come in Forest Ambush and the sets have knights which makes it an cheaper way to get them.

It will probably have the newest faction for figs due to when it's coming out which is always good It most likely won't have very good piece selection but I may get it depending what the set will look like and who knows it may have some good pieces.

It's a very basic castle, with the existing lion knights. Though does seem to have a King so not all bad.

As for the battle-pack debate, at least it isn't a jumble of parts like the most recent pirate battle pack was. It does seem odd to only include 4 figs as it puts it in direct competition with the forest ambush set, which is much more likely to see discount.
