Nexo Knights in 2016 - Official pics!

Post by JPinoy »

Wow... I haven't posted here in YEARS. Anyhow, I came across some new info via FaceBook about the new Castle sets in 2016.

I'm not sure about this... They mixed Space and Castle together with this new Nexo Knights.

Right now they are being introduced in New York Comic Con, but some sites have details (and pics) of the new Castle/Space sets.

Here is the Gizmodo Article with images.

Hey JPinoy, welcome back!

Yeah, I was just about to start a new thread on this (btw, I've locked the old speculative thread now that we have actual images to discuss).

The media push for Nexo Knights started today, when LEGO unveiled two of the sets at Comic Con NY. You can read the full press release various places online. Here it is at Brothers-Brick. After a general discussion of the line as a space/castle mashup, we gets some dates - sets out January 1 2016, the show starts in late December (on the Cartoon Network in the US, not sure in other countries), free app for various mobile devices also in late December. Fourteen sets in the first wave in January, ranging from US$10 to US$100. Second wave of sets due out in August 2016.

Earlier today LEGO uploaded several videos to your YouTube channel. You can also see these on the official LEGO.com theme page.

BrickFan has all of this, plus some photos of the display at Comic Con NY. Leg Godt has an article here with much of the same information.

Here are a bunch of the figs:

They look goofy, with a bit of a He-Man vibe to them. Kids will probably like them, but they don't do anything for me. Just as well anyway, I don't need another series of sets to keep up with...

Well, it's more promising than Ninjago was at first, and that turned out to be a fairly useful line. :?

UGH!! I am definitely not impressed with this turn of fate for the castle theme. It's just not castle anymore. Looks more like something from Masters of the Universe".

It may have done OK with the focus groups, but that's why kids aren't allowed to vote in state elections. I'm reminded of the episode of The Simpsons where the kids have a hand in designing Funzo, the ultimate toy that is cuddly, soft, interactive and has lots of firepower!

Hey,

It looks like there are definitely some new elements that may find use.

Most significantly to me, if you look closely at the nose of this horse/speederbike thing, it looks like there is a new slope that is a companion to the cheese slope, essentially a 1x1x1/3 quadruple slope. I want like a million of those

I think the side of that horse is also a new wedge slope in dark blue.

The shields seem to be made of two pieces - the back part in dark metallic gray, and then a new shield-shaped tile piece in various color. You can clearly see two of these new tiles in trans blue and trans yellow on the ground in the forefront of the official pic of that evil chariot thingy, and there are several of them in blue as decorations on the moving castle. I'm sure those will be useful.

Those new armor/pauldrons elements are interesting, but there utility for castle is diminished by the orange shoulders. Of course these could be painted. I do really like that they are using variations on old heraldry.

New visors are probably the most castle-ready elements.

Some new swords that are IMO totally useless (reminds me of the KKII zwords, also all of the Chima stuff).

Jestro(?) has a very cool looking wizard's staff.

It looks like the books are not just new prints, but a totally new element. If you go to this picture from Comic-Con NY, blue it up to full size, and look at the figure on the far left you can see this. I'm looking forward to seeing a close-up of that element.

BTW, there are some additional figs in this pic. The king fig has a variation on the CMF king. The queen is also a really nice fig. Interesting color variations on older helms on some of those figs.

Some of the armor could be useful to make some shardplate suits from the "The Way of Kings" but other than that, the sets look like something Mega Blocks would come up with.

There are some very useful new slope elements here (anybody see a "corner" cheese yet?), but this is definitely a sci-fi theme, not the typical historical/fantasy castle theme. I must say though, the "hover horse" is really well designed and I want some!

I wonder what the good guy torsos look like without that armor--they look pretty sweet for space MOCs; the villains are going to be the most "castle"-friendly portions of this theme to the typical LEGO castle crowd I think. The knight visors could be interesting, but I'll need more pics before deciding.

Hey,

I've done some slicing and dicing of pictures from the LEGO display at Comic-Con. I'm looking forward to good pictures of these new elements.

Yep, mrcp6d, here is the 1x1 quadruple slope. It looks like this comes either in dark gray or in a metallic dark gray, trans orange, and maybe in gold. I'd love to have these in various grays as architectural elements.

The new tile. This seems to fit over a 2x3 stud area, with cutouts so you could put it onto another plate. It also seems to click into the shield (hmm, this implies that shield has studs on its face). I'm sure there will be some story element where you collect these to power-up your shields or something. Maybe the different shields have powers? In this pic that one character is using his shield as kind of a rocket-surfboard and a fig in the back has a beam of light either coming out of his shield or hitting his shield. I can imagine this piece being a great decorative element say on the walls of a feast-hall (at least if we get other non-trans versions).

The book. It looks like this is made of three elements - a base piece that is the back cover, a 1x2 tile inside (hmm, interesting print maybe?), and a piece that clips onto the back cover that swings open and closed. The back cover piece can be gripped by a fig. Magical-looking books figure in the various art we've seen promoting this, so I'm guessing there will be some story-line about the significance of these. Has anyone watched the set of videos they posted on YouTube yesterday? Maybe we'll get clues in those.

A couple of other images. This seems to be a large sculpture on display at NYCC Comic-Con. Note how they emphasize the new elements of the shield, the book, and that staff. Also, the tag line is Upgrade Your Power, suggesting the story line where you search for the new shield pieces to gain new powers. Note that this is the action of the game for mobile devices. Here's the description from the press release: "To extend the story and increase playing fun, more than 150 unique LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS powers – represented as shields – have been scattered across the kingdom of Knighton. The powers can be found in building sets, online, in print and directly in the television content. "

Here are the additional figs shown at Comic-Con (aside from the ones in the clean pictures at the top of the thread). These are drawn from this pic and this pic by Allen Tran (go to those links to see full size images). In the top row, the guy on the left has an old-school peasant hood. Interesting pauldrons on the third and fourth figs. All of the bad-guy figs have faces that would be great in some sort of monster/demon army.

By far my favorites are the king and queen. The king's sword piece could be very useful btw.

Well, there are not as many parts that I find useful in these sets we have seen so far. I wish TLG would come out with a Tim Burton theme or something. That would give me the colors I need. But I digress. There are still many parts in the Nexo Knights theme that will work nicely into castle MOCs. There may be a few others that will work with some ...modification. You can take the stickers off parts and remove unwanted pad printing with a pencil eraser (provided your conscience allows you to). Also, the little demon looking dudes and other baddies quite look promising. Remember, we still have not seen all of the sets or figs in the theme yet. I think it will hold potential even if it is a bit brightly colored. :D

I like everything I see in this post.

I'm not afraid to get into weirdness a bit, and I think the new figures look pretty awesome. The new books and diamond cheese are great as well.

Thematically, it's not going to mesh well with any existing series. As such, an adult who is heavily invested in Castle or Space might not want to add these to their existing collections. However, if I was just starting out, this would be a fine thing to collect, IMO. Since I am not just starting out, I have to decide if I can afford the money and space for a new theme to collect. It's probably going to be all-or-nothing for me, but I do want them.

I think this looks great, actually: I'm more excited about these sets than I have been about a new line for a while. They look really fun, and I see lots of potentially-useful parts as well. I agree that there are some silly-looking swords in there, but I'm sure people will come up with good uses for them somewhere.

I was also amused by the 'Clay' video which starts with a knight from the yellow castle failing to get the sword out of the stone...

Those are interesting...., but I need stuff like Kingdoms to buy castle sets. I'm sort of relieved at these because otherwise I'd have to buy them if they were anything like Kingdoms, heh.

Hey all,

And now a lot of other set images have been posted to Lego.com's servers.* Brickset has them all here. As far as I know the names of these sets have not yet been announced. Follow that link for full size pics. There are still going to be more sets in wave one, presumably, because I don't see the king and queen anywhere in these.
