NY Toy Fair 2017 - Not a lot of Castle love

Post by Bruce N H »

Hey all,

I've been going through photos of upcoming sets displayed at Toy Fair (Brothers-Brick and Brickset mainly, but others are following this as well) (this Brickset article has links to various LEGO blogs covering this), and my main impression is, not much for Castle fans.

Of course the theme that directly claims to be kind of "castle" is Nexo Knights, and there are definitely some torsos and a few accessories that are really nice, but the sets really say "space" to me. For example, here is the main castle set:

Which looks more like Ice Planet to me. I do really love this demon fig, and can imagine him fitting very well into a fantasy setting.

If you're fine with minidolls, crazy colors and more fantasy elements, you'll find more to love in the Elves line, though only three sets are on display. These two include lots of promising elements:

Again with the minidolls caveat, but the Princess line has had very nice Castle-y elements. Only two sets on display, but the house in this Cinderella set would fit very well in a Castle town (though it's at a much younger age range in building style). There are also some nice elements in the Little Mermaid set.

As previously noted by Armored Archer, there are some nice figs in the upcoming CMF series 17.

A few others, like for instance PotC is not Castle, but I'm sure you could get a lot of use out of the Silent Mary

and of course the recognition that all parts (or at least almost all) can be re-purposed for castle, but overall, not a lot of Castle love this year.

The white queen lady in that big NexoKnight set might be a good figure too.
