I was just checking out my copy that I got with the LEGO Chess game. I still have it assembled for some reason. The throne is nice, but I think the back should have been a little taller. The King's crown sticks up over the back of the throne, so it makes it look a little squat. Overall though it's a nice bonus for buying the game.

For anyone interested in playing Chess, the LEGO Chess game is actually a pretty good teaching tool for beginning players. The AI is fairly decent, and the game teaches some basic strategy, along with all the game basics. Plus it's just kind of fun to play chess with LEGO figures. It is definitely not a game for advanced players, but I would highly recommend it for a child interested in chess.

I've always kinda liked this set. I got it as soon as I saw it because I think that it's a nice look for a king. It seems the kings included with our casltes or what not are always gray old men with a lion somewhere on their body - which is cool and good, but I think this guy adds a little variety. I use him for the king of the Fright Knights, Kind of a gruff warrior king from some mountain kingdom or something.

Anyway, I will admit the crown is blah, but the variety he adds is good. :D
Knight Templar
n. pl. Knights Templars or Knights Templar
1.A member of an order of knights founded about 1118 to protect pilgrims in the Holy Land during the Second Crusade.

I always kind of liked this little set, though I prefer King Mathias. It's neat for another generic King, and the throne is welcome too.

This set is not too bad, but it certainly isn't anything special. It came with a unique torso which in my opinion, was the highlight of the set. Unfortunately, this once unique torso has become all too common. Heck, when the local blacksmith can afford this torso, you know something is wrong. Other than the torso, this set doesn't have alot going for it. And really, how many kings do we need?

Well I thinks its ok. Nothing grand but I really wanted it when I first saw it. Never got, (still don't have it) but I think that it was a nice bonus for a CD-ROM. When I first saw it, the only other king was the Royal Knight one and he was a bit boring. This was a nice change.

I think this is a nice little set, and i agree with everything that everyone else stated. But also, i was curious, i am kind of uneducated in the ninja line, and i was wondering if there was ever a ninja king, or emperor, or whatever.

Now, it's up to you to crown your own king in your LEGO world.

For me the "emperor" in the Ninja Land (Japan) always was this guy:

A Japanese emperor (Tenno?) certainly looks different than a European king, so I would never identify the Chess King with a Tenno.

The playability in this set was just awesome:

You can have him sit down!
You can have him stand up!
...um...
You can have him sit down again!

I thought they should have continued this idea and made a few other little chess-themed sets--e.g. an armored fig on a horse as the knight piece, etc.

I got mine from a toystore where it was lying around on some shelf. So I asked the storemanager what the price of the set was. It wasn't in the computer so I got it for 2,5 guilders (when we still were paying with guilders), wich is about 1,4 dollar.
Haven't opened it yet by the way.

Well, it's good but I have a question.
This King doesn't even got a sword. There is some assassin to kill him. He can't defend himself.

Hmmm. I'd have bought this set for the crown only, I think. I wasn't buying Lego at the time this was released.
I don't know. I like the throne design, but not the colors.
I think I'd rate this set a solid 'Eh'.
Of course I were to see it in the store today for, oh, say $3.99usd.... I'd probably pick it up.

Like the king, but I have never liked those sticks with lights. The throne is Ok, Bit to wide in my opinion. But this set is ok.

This set is also known as "The Crazy LEGO King" was that from LEGO?

This was the start of a castle torso was well traveled:
http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/973px117 I like it best with black arms as Sir John of Mayne from KK1 especially in http://www.peeron.com/inv/sets/4817-1

Castle King torso sometimes like this one and the current Viking torso have an interesting history. Maybe the red diamond is the reason it was not picked up as the KK1 king, the Viking torso has the right two blue combinations for the current castle fantasy line.

The set/thrown design I don’t find interesting, had I been at a Lego land at that time no doubt in a joyous mood, I would have had to pick one up for $2 US before leaving. Now seeing as I’ve never been to Lego land!
