As being said, this is a too poor set to be high noted, because it has no rare or specific item (grey shield and axe on #15, black halberd/battleaxe and lion torsos on #6102 set,...).

I really like the three torsos (because nostalgia?? because their simplicity?).

These three minifig have disparate torsos, in the same way as the three 1979-1983 castle sets have disparate groups without hologeneity ones with the others -- whereas since 1984, Legoland have proposed well defined groups (Lions, BF, etc.). So, there is less "historical" playability: the (yellow) castle of a lord cannot be besieged by the coherent army of a rival lord (that became possible since 1984, for example BF against Lions).
But this set can also be seen as a way to unify these disparate sets -- and to complete them. It should have been released in Europe!

It is kind of hard to give a review for a set that is small, but I think that this would be a good set to buy in masses. Maybe 5 at once. That would give you 15. A nice set to get when building up an army. I like the torso design. SO simple, and fun at the same time.

It definitely needs some shield, but its is a nice little set. I wish Lego would come back with something smaller like this because it would be a simple way to collect lots of figures. A lot of the minifig sets available now have accessories that are useless to me and something like this would be perfect to just get basic pieces and figs that I use often. but again shields should be included

I'll get against what most here said, and claim that this is a poor set, no variety in helms, neither in weapons, but only in clothing, at last, no shield.

Without shield, I would have seen better an axe as weapon, one soldier with bullet helm, one with a shield, and one with a spear, and, why not, with a shield too, that would have been a great combination.
Course, today, we have lots of weapons to give them and put them into our lego world, but think about these days' sets, could someone have every set from this era, he won't have much extra weapons to pump up their equipment.

The good point for those days was probably the possibility to get in the castle scheme, or to add some soldiers to an existing "world". I think it is nice that every set has nearly its own coats of arms, you can make whatever alliance you want to build your opposing armies.

For today, light grey ABS swords and helmets are pretty scarce, so this makes these soldiers interresting, also, their torsos are rare, as they were sold in only a few sets, not as the lions or crossed axes ones.

So, if it has to be transposed into the current (or forthcoming) era, it won't be much interresting, neither as an army builder (compared to battlepack's variety), nor as an impulse (not enough accessories). But if only it would be given with, say, an happy meal at McD's, I will sure eat at least one hamburger.

cool but they need wepon variation i e one gets a halberd one gets a spear and a big shield(im not sure what else to call it) and one gets a shortsword and a triangular-ish shield.oh and two should have bullet helms and one should have a grill helm playabillity is pretty good add a fence and you've got a meelee at a tourney.

id say maybe 8/10 with 10 being the best castle set ever made (maybe brickmoor)
