As per my note in my post yesterday in the Set Review pertaiining to "Bull's Attack", here is another set review dug up from the depths of time...

Like so many others on this thread, I agree that it is a great set. The term that comes to my mind in thinking about it is "expansion pack". It expands your army, your castle, and your siege equipment. On it's own, it's a bit of a peculiarity, with no enemy, no complete structure, and a siege tower in what (I think) appear to be Black Falcon colours.

Still, a great set.

Parts: 8/10
Playability: 7/10
Figs/Accessories: 7.5/10
Design (then): 8/10
Design (now): 8.5/10
Nostalgia: 7/10

Overall Score: 7.67/10

I don't think the Black Falcons have the exclusive right to own black war machines :-) Black is simply what was meant to be wood. Brown bricks were not common back in the mid 80s.

I loved this set. A great siege tower, a wall to expand a castle with, four great figs, (one with a round shield!).....

I always used the wall to expand the King's Castle, and I used the siege tower to invade the Black Falcons. :)

True enough, I suppose...

I guess that I feel that there ought to be some grey or red highlights on it, but that's just irrational thinking, I imagine.

Grey highlights on a wooden siege tower? Boy, I am afraid I diagnose you with the virus of juniorisation (iuniorisationitis communis). Get well soon! :-)

The grey highlight is the grey wall next to the tower, and the red highlights are the Lion knights standing on the tower.

I do not own this set so I will not go to deep into detail. I like it from pictures and can see only one weak point; there is only 1 crest.
Have a nice day, Thomas

I wish I had this set, just 'cause it's classic castle and crusaders/black falcons in one set. If I would have been older when it came out I probably would have purchased more than one. It is oversimplified and the wheels look too flimsy for such a large structure, but not too bad. More figs would always be great, but the small wall section would make it hard to fit one faction on.

Overall a perdy decent set, but not as good as some of the other simelar sets. For instance the 6062.

Great set! I wanted one for years and finally got one last month. The siege tower itself is surprisingly well built and wall actually has an interior of sorts (a table or fireplace depending on how you look at it). There is one odd thing about it though, the "attackers" and "defenders" are part of the same faction. A rebellion in Legoland?

Just crusaders, no black falcons there. ;)

Awsome stuff. One of my favorite sets as a child. This seige tower was simply too much fun. The bridge worked well, and the tower looked great when juxtaposed against the lighter grey of the castle wall. This was the first set I recieved that included black wall pieces.

A great set!

9/10

OH! pshhh... I must have been thinking of another simelar set, or something. Yup I messed up. Thanks for pointing that out Josh. I don't know where the crusaders came from, just my head I guess.

Still a great set!

Not my favorite. The wall is worse than the KK2 "Knights' Wall (Except the colors are better in this one)". It's sort of hard to tell who is defending and who is attacking. I like the shields, though.

what a set! very simple seige tower and a very simple SOLID wall, (most lego walls have a hole in somewhere) oh and those ladders are rare and really good! plenty of figs too

fantastic set.
i like it very much, because of the great siege tower. for me the most beautiful siege weapon ever designed by LEGO.

I actually own this set.

Oh, what a feeling to say that at my age...

Anyway, I really like it. The Siege Tower is brilliant, maybe it is a bit simple, but that´s also why I like it. Of course brown would have been better but as Jojo noted it wasn´t common back then.
