Is this the one you mean? If you do, then it's perfectly logical to combine them, as you said.

Does the height of the siege tower correspond well with the wall's height?
By the way, it would be much better (and much less greedy) if Lego just released just one set with both the wall and the catapult.

That's the one. :) I don't remember exaclty how the height of the siege engine matches up, but I guess it's fine either way. Anyway, I don't think the height mismatch between wall and seige engine, if it exists, is substantial.

Hmm... I think LEGO did combine the two to make one set, by combining the siege engine with the wall (to make the attack pack they sold), like we just said, they are perfect together. However, I'm pretty sure they also seperated two sets for sale, so buyers could buy them either together or seperately...

Can you show a picture of the joint set please? If Lego have released them together, then it's very good. They accompany each other perfectly, and are of good play value.
P.S. Everyone has commented on the usefulness of the coloured knights. Can anyone say what are they so useful for?

Oh, ok I thought they were in one box. Never mind, still better than buying two separate ones.

Ahh... gotcha. Still, although they are not in the same box, I think they are priced as if they were, so it's basically the same idea.

Make these changes:
  • No Rainbow Knights
2 Good guys vs 2 Bad guys*
Medium blue to Dark or normal blue
Varied weapons (need some spears and bows to defend the wall!)
    A better catapult
and it would be an awesome set. I like the overall design and piece selection (I do like those weird walls). I think this would be a great starter castle for those who can't afford larger sets.

*This could change since I believe Vladek's Siege Engine was this set's conflict piece

The best set KK2 had to offer, appart from Vladeks Dark Fortress, wich brought me to nearly all my black pieces.
That's good for me because I only build black. and the doors are nice.
Though I agree, this set should have come with one or two bad guys.

Not big on this set. The whole concept is great... one of my favorites, actually. I had the black siege wall back in the day. It attatched to my Black Monarch Castle, making it uber large! It's just the colors of this one that detract from a great idea.

A lot of what I think has already been said, but what I do want to say is that i'd be most interested in seeing a Castle Fantasy-Era remake of this.

The structure's got a lot of potential, and there's lots of playability, but the set's let down by the same design problems that many of the other KK2 sets suffered from.

Richard,

I agree. This set reminded me some of the later KKII sets that I thought were a marked improvement over the earlier ones. Sad it had the silly rainbow knights but there we go. It would be nice to see something similar, these medium and small size fortifications have been lacking the last two years in the new castle system in favour of siege equipment.... I have enought siege equioment now for some smaller fortifications.

As KK2 sets go, this one isn't half bad. An okay assortment of peices (If you are into the new colors) and the figs arn'e completly useless. The playability on this set is next to none, though I suppose that is why it was paired with Vladek's Seige Engine.

I have a variety of fantasy era sets and am now acquiring some Knights Kingdom II sets and modifying them to match my later sets. This is a good set to start with, but after you make these following mods, it will match 7094 King's Castle Siege nicely:

1. Begin by replacing the green 4x12 base bricks with dark green 4x12 plates.

2. Then replace the blue inverted sloped bricks near the top of the structure with black ones.

3. Next, replace the blue pointed sloped bricks that fit on the top of the structure with dark pearl gold ones.

4. Then replace the blue four-sided roof piece at the top of the end of the wall with a dark blue one.

5. And finally, replace the octagonal shield on the wall with a crown knights' kite shield, which requires only a small modification to the wall.

And there you have it. Also, you can optionally replace the lantern-type part at the top of the gate section with a 1x2 plate with a single stud, a 1x1 round cone, and a crossbow to further match the king's castle. The torch holders at the front of the gate can be replaced with the newer "skateboard wheels" style ones and the "catapult" can be updated with a better one, which is also easily done. And all of these parts can be obtained from 7094 King's Castle Siege.

Anyway, with these mods, I give the set two thumbs up. As is, like I said before, it's still a good set for a good price. I just don't care much for the knights. They look a bit fruity. :?

My score: 6/10

I like it and you can make a good MOC out of it. :)
