Creating MOC with Ldraw

Post by David Girard »

Hi everybody,

I create all my MOC with ldraw. I create only Castle sets. I don't know if I'm the only one here to create with this fantastic tool.

I have a complaint to make. Some essentials pieces from castle line are truely lacking...

4496 Minifig Pitchfork
x167 Minifig Helmet Knight with Fixed Face Grill
x79 Minifig Hat Farmer's
x106 Minifig Hat Forestmen's
X107 Minifig Hat High Cone Shaped

Is there someone able to make these piece for ldraw ? I don't know how to make piece.

I use MLCAD and Ldraw, altho for me, touching the brick and being able to move it around in realspace helps me visualize alot better what I'm trying to do. Also, i often make something, then realize a little error, take it apart, fix it, and put it back together. this is quite difficult in MLCAD without entirely re-doing the moc.

I do use MLCAD for instructions and the like, since it works so nicely (especially when paired with LPub, LP3, and POVRay). my 3CS wall was done that way http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=59658.

as for the pieces.. I believe ldraw.org has something about that... http://www.ldraw.org/index.php and anyway, that would be the best place to ask.

i believe most ldraw people are spacers or train heads, so those pieces get priority. i also know the castle elements you request are somewhat difficult to render since they use strange curves and shapes. but it never hurts to ask.

I asked the same thing to someone at ldraw.org as you suggested Glencaer. This is what Chris Dee answered: :D
Hi David

Thanks you for your question. Yes these parts have been missing from the
LDraw inventory for some while - mainly because curved parts are the most
difficult to make.

There is some good news for you.

The forestman's cap (peeron ref x106) has been issued in mock-up form
(without the feather hole) - see
http://news.lugnet.com/cad/dat/parts/?n=1926. And I have also now added the
feather hole, and am putting the final touches to this part. Expect to see
an announcement on lugnet.cad sometime in the next few weeks.

I have also started work on the Minifig Helmet Knight with Fixed Face Grille
(peeron ref x167).

Of the others on your list, I think the Farmer's cap will be the hardest.

Chris Dee
That's good news 2 of 5 are in to process to be release. The farmer's hat is the hardest  (this is one I wait for the most with the pichtfork too)

But that's good new.
