A castle MOC

This is my first castle MOC since I came out of my dark ages. It's built almost entirely with 10-15year old pieces I had as a child. I started buying LEGO again about three years ago when I finally had money to buy the Star Wars stuff, but I recently re-discovered my long-lost love of castle LEGO. So I built this because I wanted to have a secret chamber. Of course, a secret chamber doesn't exist in a vacuum so I had to build a castle around it.

Of course this doesn't really compare to the great things I see on this site and on other sites, so I'm a little embarrased to show it, but I had fun building it and I hope there are a few details here or there that you enjoy.

Some of you who frequent FBTB might recognize this since I posted it there in the 'LEGO' section some time ago.

Anyway, let me know what you like, and what stinks. I was hoping to one day have enough grey bricks to do something roughly this size but with more detail and better wall coverage, better stairs, etc but now that the old grey is gone, I'm not sure what I'll do.

A nice castle, especially the interior detail - better than I've managed. Very good.

In particular I give you praise for the dragon sculpture over the main gate. That is inspired! Well done.

I like it! It looks like a classic design, a legit set from the 80s. It might be the walls that does it.

Yeah, my trusty server (which never dies) went down today. It should be back up though. I have considered getting a brickshelf acct but never got around to it, since my server is so much easier and until today it had a really long uptime.

Hopefully it'll stay up now or else I've got some serious problems

I am really digging that entrance, a really great expansion on the Battle Dragon design. It's very imposing, I'm filing that under 'steal in the future'.

The Castle has a very organic design, and I like that. I gotta tell you, you shouldn't be embaressed, this is light years better than the Castles I was building 6 years ago (when I was 19 and in college, if anyone's counting). The very fact that you have opening walls, splitting rooms and such a high level of interior detail is something to be proud of.

Is there any way you could post a clearer picture of your weapon's rack? What's holding the swords up? The hilts are resting on something, looks like a pair of beams held at an angle? Black never does photograph well, does it.

Over all, good job. I'll be watching for more Castley stuff from you.

Regardless, it's a pretty good castle. I find that expanding on classic designs is a good building exercise and I often do it myself. Keep up the good work.

BTW, I like the weapon rack. It's more believable than what's in most LEGO castles.

One thing that looks odd - the water is above the grass under the bridge. Of course, that is difficult to fix without a lot of green plates and/or bricks.

You're the first person to mention that. Yeah, I shamelessly took those elements from their original designs; in fact I had been planning on building more dragon for the Battle Dragon and I needed a place to put it, so it ended up over the gate. As for the gate, I just figured that the red Knight's Castle gate was a good match for the red dragon.

About the water: yeah, my supply of green is very low (actually, so is my supply of blue) and so things like landscaping are going to be difficult for a little while longer for me.

I'd like to show more photos but sadly I've dismantled this castle for parts. Actualy, looking at the photo I can't even remember how I built it, but I think it's a series of 1x3 plates with 1x1 pieces at each end (on the spear side, these pieces have clips). The legs are 1x3 and they meet 1x4 plates at the bottom, giving it that wedge shape.

I really like the dragon head effect. Makes it look spooooky or somthing
