Seed Part Challenge - August. Seed part named, prize shown

Since we had such inspiring builds made in the June challenge we will try to make this a tradition here at Classic Castle. After a brief hiatus in the summery heat of July we will now continue with a new one in August, this time with yours truly at the helm. Since this is just the second time around I will reiterate some of the things Blue said in the last one.

What is a seed part challenge?

I will name a part that's not quite intended for use in castle creations and your job will be to use it as creatively as possible. The more unexpected the use, the better. Size doesn't matter here, it's all about the seed part and creativity.

The rules:

1) You may only submit one entry.

2) You have one month to build your entry. I will post the piece to this thread on August 1st, and lock it on August 31st. If you are using Brickshelf I ask you to post deeplinks if you upload your entry close to the deadline, since the moderating there can take a while.

3) You post your entry in this thread. You shall also begin your post with

ENTRY

This is to make it easier for me to find the entries among other comments and questions. The code for this is:

Code: Select all

ENTRY
Also, please don't clutter this thread up with comments about other entries, let's keep those in their separate threads.

4) Follow the TOS.

5) There are no size restrictions.

6) You may post at most five pictures in the folder you submit. If you do submit more than five I'll just look at the first five. You are of course welcome to post as many as you like in a separate thread.

7) Anyone can enter, staff or not.

Prize:
There is a double prize for this challenge, since we'll be offering you eternal glory as well as food for your collection. In other words, the winner will receive an homage in one of the great literary languages of the era, Latin that is, as well as a prize in LEGO form, donated by none other than the great Bluesecrets (see her post below). The exact nature of that will be revealed shortly. Also I might do some disticha to a runner up or two depending on the moods of the Muses and myself.

What is the seed part?

A nozzle, a nozzle, my kingdom for a nozzle! Leg godt, fellow castlers!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Along with Maedhros' amazing poetry/verse there will be a prize for first place. What, it hasn't been completely decided yet, but I shall be donating it. As soon as I have figured out what, I will post it in this post.

The prize...pictures will follow...are a bunch of spears...like roughly 57 of them in different colors.

Here is your photo of the prize:

I hope this pleases you.

My entry! The seed part is used for the cheek guard of his helm and for the cross guard of his sword.

Pro his grates imo corde ego ago ingeniosis
quorum electandus victor idoneus est.
Equite rufo animoso ensem praesigne vibrante
aere perennius hic nunc monumentum agitur.
Constructorem ideo, qui nomine dicit ab Ortu
se pugnatorem, plaudite, amici, hodie!

And the winner is Brickninja with his Red Knight:

Woah!! Thank you so much! This is the first time I've ever won any contest or challenge, even placed in one! Also, great poem. I'm learning Latin ATM, but don't know enough to translate it, so I had to run it through Google translate, which of course messed it up and didn't do it justice.

Yes, Bluesecrets has the prize so do contact her.

Furthermore, for those of you interested in the verse, here's a rough translation:

For these (entries) I heartily thank* the ingenious persons
from which one suitable winner must be chosen.
Through a wondrous** and courageous red knight swinging his sword
a monument more lasting than bronze is created***.
Therefore, friends, applaud today the builder,
who through his name says that he is a warrior from the East****!

*Actually grates is a somewhat archaic way of saying thanks. Normally you'd say gratias, while grates is rather used in formulas around divine services etc, but it suited the metre better (and I like being archaic I suppose)!

**I was a bit liberal in the declension of praesigne (you'd most often expect praesigni here, but it doesn't fit the verse), but hey, this site is medieval and it was all a bit less restrictive then.

***A reference to Horatius, Carmina III: XXX

****Actually from "the rising", which in reference to the sun means the east.
