The Siege of Bannockburn Castle

Post by soccerkid6 »

Check out a timelapse video of the build here:

An entry into the Castle Siege category of the Colossal Castle Contest. This year I'm basing most of my CCC entries on The Peleg Chronicles book series. The layered landscape was inspired by Dubbadgrim and Brother Steven. I wanted to try doing a rounded tower and wall with sloped base while using a SNOT tile wall design, and I'm pretty happy with the result. The catapult and ballista are both functional, and you can see them in action here:

Count Rosencross and his men defend his castle from an attack by a neighboring lord.

Strong build SK! The smooth walls are certainly a departure from your usual style.

Very good, I'm going to have to try that wall technique sometime. The moat is great too.

Awesome build, but aren't you sponsoring that category's prize? :woo:

@mrp6d: Thanks! I like to mix up how I do my stonework, so I don't get stuck in a rut.

@Brickninja: Thanks, the wall technique is actually pretty easy :)

@Justin M: Thanks Justin!

@Graham Gidman: Glad you like it Graham :D

@royalbrickcustoms: Thanks RBC, and yeah I'm the prize donor for this category. But I had no idea what the category was, and I haven't seen any rules keeping me from entering. It was too good a category to pass up :lol:
If I were to win I'd just give the prize to the second place build.

@blufiji: Thanks!

Very nice tower and I like how the water is an unusual color.

Great all around work here man! I like the tiled/textured look on the castle walls and the round tower looks great. The cross arrow slits are a favorite of mine and I like how they are set in the wall. As others have said, the water color for the moat gives a nice touch. It is unique and looks like a stagnant pond which is probably more realistic considering the water in a moat wasn't exactly flowing.
Nice job on the siege engines as well, great that they are fully functional. Keep it up! :)

@Lettuce Brick: Thanks! Dark green was pretty much the only color I could use (because of piece limitations) to portray the rancid moat I wanted :)

@Sir Valiant: Thanks SV! Glad you like the functionality of the siege engines :)

Oh no, someone is on to us :woo: Nice catch there, using the brick separator to 'build' I thought would give it away. It was a whole lot easier to film the taking down than the actual building, way less time intensive too. For this video we used a Canon Powershot SX210 (so a point and shoot), but for future films we'll be using a Canon T2i DSLR :)
