Hey all,
If I've ever had one knock on Dr. Carney, it was that he isn't always very dynamic in his presentation of his castles. Often they are sitting there on a table in his basement, without figs, looking sort of dead. Anyway, he really does the presentation well with this stop motion video of the construction of Caernarfon Castle. You've just got to watch this. According to this article he's bringing it to BrickWorld Chicago, so if you're anywhere nearby this weekend you can see it in the brick. Otherwise see all of the pictures on Dr. Carney's site.

I've always been a big fan of Bob's castles, for many reasons such as their size and historical accuracy. Really impressive stop motion, especially that knight/wizard/dragon scene happening in the middle

That's very cool indeed! The castle is impressive in it's scale, as well as it's great historic feel to it's architecture. The video is fun, too!

this is a frequent comment from many castle fans, and I experimented it also on my own model of Krak des Chevaliers, which made me putting a lot of Minifigures on Belvoir castle.
I must confess that I don't agree with you.
Why a lot of people think that castles are not complete without minifigures?
I really don't know, but what I'm sure about is that Bob (which is a great friend) and I are more interested in the castles themselves and in their architecture than in building a diorama.
In fact, to be honest, a lot of castle themed MOCs are basically fantasy dioramas, with a lot of architectural errors and mistakes, full of fantasy creatures which have never existed in real life and whose defenses would not resist one hour in case of siege.
Bob is one of the few (maybe the only?) who build true historical castles, which require a lot of studies and knowledge about history, architecture, military strategy and defense technics.
I really don't think that constructive criticism could be discarded only because their castles are not filled with minifigures.
I consider his work a great source of inspiration for us all, and I wish everyone of us could build 147 castles like him!

Bob's castles were one of the first AFOL creations I found (along with Daniel Siskinds Bloodstone castle which no longer is findable). He is a fantastic builder and he has done more MOCS of huge castles than I have had hot dinners¬!
