The Docks of Isil Oro

Post by AardWolf »

Hey all, here is my most recent build for the Lands of Roawia Role-Playing Game over on Merlin's Beard. Depicted is the fishing pier in the port city of Isil Oro. There are plenty of details to find and a piece of each building pays tribute to a different builder who inspired it.

Comments and criticism are always welcome!

This is big! All the people give it a bustling city port atmosphere, but it also looks very well fortified (which we all like to see in a castle MOC). All the different elevation levels are effective, as is the texture given to the water. Also, those subtle custom shields make me want to try printing myself :D

Lovely build, so much going on! The water is superb, captures the look of waves beautifully. Great selection of buildings too, now I'm curious which builder inspired which building :)

I'm glad you like the looks of it! You should definitely give custom stickers a go! They weren't too hard and the templates in the How-To section really help out :)

Thank you very much! I actually completely rebuilt the water this way at the very end because my wife told me it wasn't good enough. So I have to thank her for that

Thanks Isaac! The fisherman's cottage, ramshackle and sagging outward, is a tribute to Cesar Sóares. The lower story of the lefthand building is a very similar tribute to digger1221's recent The Blacksmith MOC, using a similar door, wall, and wood design. The middle building and terrace are a tribute to Jonas Wide's Streets of Barqa (and that particular MOC kind of inspired this whole build), and the house on the right is a tribute to Luke Watkins Hutchinson, past and present. The front design is based off of his still-relevant Detailed Guide to Building a Medieval Village and the house even features an under-roof of dark green 45 degree slopes as he uses in that guide. The outer roof is more ramshackle and stylized like his more recent MOCs. The lighthouse, statue, and surrounding stone walls are a tribute to Mitah Val Karem's building style and to his Back From the Dead build for the last GC. The dock itself (and the supports using the 1x1 reddish brown round stud to top the 2x2 round bricks) are a tribute to Gary's The Black Swan and Gathering Intel For The War. Even the tile walkway lined with flower beds was inspired by Joshua's marvelous State Gardens of Lenfald.

The water is absolutely gorgeous and all the little mini-scenes & overall bustling nature of this MOC make it a top-notch dio. Awesome work!
