MOC: Will Scarlet's Outpost

Post by ootkaman »

This is my fourth and final MOC revolving around Robin Hood, featuring Will Scarlet and Gamble Gold at an outpost, along with one of Prince John's soldiers.

This outpost features a fake rock wall in the back which can be raised up to reveal two crates of treasure and two small barrels of food. These merry men can also raise the ladder to prevent any intruders. As with my other three Robin Hood MOCs, any feedback is much appreciated. If there is enough interest in this and my other Robin Hood MOCs, there is one more set I am considering making.

This MOC is also a project on Lego Ideas. Feel free to support it here if you like it: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/110260

Nice. It has the feel of an old-school set. One suggestion would be to have the rock wall swing sideways rather than up, which might make more physical sense.

Nice little outpost! I agree with Bruce- I think a swing hinge would work well. It would also allow you to strengthen the build by keeping the rock wall attached to one of the halves of the base.

You should definitely build some more Robin Hood MOCs, but I'd also suggest not building something only "if there's interest" in something. Build something you enjoy building and you will have the most fun constructing it and enjoy the most success. And besides, if you build it, they will come

Thanks for the feedback! One reason I chose for it to swing up instead of sideways (like a car trunk would) is because of the cool new hinges Lego has, and I already have several sets where walls hinge sideways. You're right that sideways would make more sense of course—just couldn't help myself :) How would either of you do it? The sideways hinge I can think of for this (as used on my Robin Hood tree set) would be 1x2, so I would need a bigger baseplate. Can you think of more creative ways to have it hinge?

I have come more and more to terms with the notion that the sets are for me mostly. Every builder can make what they find the most ideal :) Based on what I have seen online (Lego Ideas, forums, MOCPages, etc.), there are so many different views on what makes a set the most ideal—and castle sets generally don't get near as much attention as SW or Marvel, for example. Either way though, I have a fun set-up and as you said can make sets I enjoy.

Really nice work here! The trunk looks great and I like the opening back :)

Thank you! It doesn't look like it is gaining much traction on Lego Ideas, but I enjoy it :)

I like your username—very fitting

Thanks for the feedback. I updated the hinge on Will Scarlet's post to swing horizontally instead of raise like a car trunk. Thank you for all of the support and feedback!

I just updated the hinge to follow your and Bruce's suggestion (see my post above this one)
