CCC XIII Dracula Castle

Post by Toltomeja »

Yes, I know... The CCC's been over for some one month. This is my last entry - but now I present it to you in the fully finished and refined form.

This is my next attempt, after last year's 'Tower of the Storms', to build a sinister-looking place. The clue feature here are the shingle roofs with black minifig flippers. I finally managed to collect a considerable amount of those - and still, a handful more would come in handy. :)

At the moment when I submitted this to the contest, there was no interior yet. Instead, only some random yellow and red techni bricks scaffolding (as always). I decided to rebuild the castle completely - starting with the ground level, up to the roof. I hope the effect was worth the effort.

Impressive to hear that you reworked it so painstakingly. I love the addition of the interior, and your numerous window designs are all excellent. Superb landscape as well :D

This is so impressive... I don't even have words for it.
You even went to the effort or getting the Medusa special series lego figurine to give Dracula a green, undead-looking face, and the bat ears.
I don't have words.
This should be featured in some professional magazine for Lego.
I would buy this, if it were a set.
I just don't have the words.
It's too good for words. :twitch:

Wow - this is indeed highly impressive! And what an innovative use of flippers - I wouldn't have thought of that in 100 years!

I also like how you alternate between stone and wood. That makes very interesting looking surfaces with a lot of life - even if the castle belongs to an undead

I love it! The detail, the size, the dark feel! I love it! ...BTW that roof with the flipper shingles looks awesome! It must have taken an eternity. I really like you custom Dracula too. Very well done!

I love it. The vibe of the place, no doubt the result of the painstaking attention to detail, is just right. Wish I had such mad skills. I would suggest it is really a towerhouse rather than a castle, but that is just nit-picking quibbling.

I would enter freely and of my own will here ;) It's a wonderful castle you've achieved. As has been said the window designs are really nice and the flippers for the roof is a fantastic idea. The interior is very well-made too, the staircase in particular works very well. The rugged and sinister shape of it all is propably the best part though, there really is an ominous mood about it. I'd have preferred a somewhat more elegant Dracula fig though ;)

Thanks for the comments, it's really nice to hear some feedback. :)

As for the flipper technique, I'm not the first to use this part in the roof. I know SlyOwl has used this quite a long time ago. What comes up as a new idea here, is probably attaching the flippers to these little bar-clip parts (one of my favourites!).

This build is unbelievably beautiful. I do like the shields at the top of the stairs, it's a nice little detail to a complex MOC.
