Hi all,
CC co-founder Tony Sava may be more into making awesome trains these days, but his stuff can still translate into castle building. I'm not sure when you'll be in a LEGO store very soon, but when you do, if you can fill up a pick-a-brick cup with plant stems and Travis bricks you can make a forest of his Travis trees. This design uses the newer style stems with a pin at the bottom rather than the older style stems. You could do this with the older stems, but that would be much more fragile.

Thanks Bruce. The new pieces also look better than the old ones for this technique.

Hmm, nice trees, how many say 3" tall trees per pick a brick cup?

Dang those are really nice trees. I now now what I'm going to be picking up at some point.
There has been so many different attempts at pine/spruce tree and many have been good but there may be the best yet.

I've got no idea how many of those you could pack in a cup. Looking at that 20-travis-brick-tall tree Tony shows I think it has about 281 of those stems. Bricklink sellers in the US with large quantities of those range from 4 to 6 cents, which would range between $11 and $17 - per tree. So that forest he has would run quite a bit of money unless you could buy in bulk.ffilz wrote:Hmm, nice trees, how many say 3" tall trees per pick a brick cup?
When I do get to a LEGO store again, if they do have these on the PAB wall, I'm going to fill up a couple of cups. Those pieces are flexible, so you could probably smash them together.

It certainly is promising. I wouldn't be surprised if you can get at least a couple trees worth into a big cup, maybe even 3-4. That would make them reasonably economical. Another question would be how fragile they are. I like my trees that use straws and leaf elements since you can just toss them in a bucket. These trees are probably more fragile than that, but may survive several conventions of putting them in and out with the worst that they actually become a bit more realistic as a few stems fall off each time in random places.Bruce N H wrote:I've got no idea how many of those you could pack in a cup.
