My Ballista

Post by Sir Terrance »

Alright, here is a much large version of Nathan's ballista. Thanks for the idea of dino tails, I have too many of them with no uses until now.

Definetly an ork weapon- I don't think anybody else would be crazy enough to load that thing up :!:  good work (though).

Cool. I made one like that too. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Robin ... lista1.jpg

Yours has a some what more smaller projectal, but thats better, I doubt that mine could actually shoot in real life.

"Yessir!"

"Oh CRAP, RUN!!!"

That is one awesome MOC! It almost looks organic, a great weapon for orcs!

The dino tails give it an evil sort of "tendril" look.

Nice work.

Nice idea! The dino tails give it a real.. well, evil look! I like the use of the smaller ones for the base and it sure it a great weapon for any orc army.
I am currently working on larger ballista to use for my uruk-hai. I have used some ideas from Brickshelf and Nathans was one of the ones I really liked.

Hmm.... I'm getting a roleplay idea.... In the next big battle, BloodVaine gets felled by a flying battering ram....

Very Orkish, Sir Terrance. Something about the shape of the arms....

Thanks for all the replies, and I'm very happy you all like it. It doesn't shoot, since the 'wheel' on the back that is supposed to hold the ropes is too loose. Maybe if I make a bigger one I could give it shooting power.

I wonder if maybe it would look (and perhaps function) better if you made the central portion of the ballista (the loading area) longer.

Being away from home at University, I don't have my usual resources to more clearly make my point. However, here is a relatively accurate (I think) picture of what a torshion ballista might have looked like. Note the ratio of the arms to the central loading area:

Image

I know you weren't exactly going for historical "accuracy," but I also think the change I suggested would make the whole machine look more fearsome.

BIGGER?? Wow...I can't wait to see that!

Ick...there wouldn't be much of him left...that WOULD be an effective way to get rid of a evil necromancer...if you aim right...

So you like big. Then BIGGER it shall be!!!!

The only other problem with making this shoot is the tail tips would fall out. They don't stay that good for pressure to be put on them.
