Denix: How to Build Big

Post by Glencaer »

Amazing builder Denix is giving us an inside look at how he builds his big castles:

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=105953

The MOC isn't finished yet, but I know that I have some good ideas just from looking at his process.

Thanks Denix!

I can tell already that this is going to be one amazing castle. However, it looks like the bottom-most portion is going to be empty, and that just seems like a whole lot of wasted space to me.
Though I'll never be able to build anything quite this large, it did give me an idea on how to create removable floors.

Awesome!!! The base is a great use of BURPs and LURPs. I love the supports and collumns on the outside of the walls.

Can't wait for the rest!

By the way, I'm pretty sure that Denix is a member here at C-C; come on and take a bow, man!

ooooooooooo

that's going to be very nice. I can't wait to see the finished structure....
I especially like the way its in an ocean. very very cool. It looks like he is going to have a drawbridge that connects to a winding stairway in a tower, with a lower level at a dock? I can't tell. This is pretty darn cool though.

I saw this on saturday, I love the picture with the cat in the middle of the castle, he just looks so P.O'ed because his owner took a picture of him lol.

The castle structer itself looks nice and I really like the sides of the castle.

BEATIFUL Castle!!!

I've got to love it, even unfinished. And not just its sheer size, but also it's shape. Reminds me of SOMETHING.....

Wish I had enough bricks to leave space unused like that.

So size DOES matter.

Seriously, this is a truly amazing piece of work! Its unfortunate that more builders aren't able to work at this scale. Its too bad there isn't a competition for the best huge castle as this would certainly take first prize!!

Hi there,

I put these pictures online without telling anyone and Lenny found them. It's a successfull "find hidden object" roll

So, it is Da'Elyris castle, my new big MOC, a melt of fantasy and steam-punk.
I'm on it for one month and I need some specific pieces to carry on. I'm regularly on bricklink
It's a huge project. The biggest I ever launched.
I'm afraid the end is far away ...

I have to be patient ... and I'm not ...

That is an Awesome looking castle. It looks very promising. The colors go especially well and I really can't wait to see the rest.

The baseplate there is a really good idea. I might have to try that sometime...

*Chuckle* Building BIG is the only way to go! The key problem I think, is HOW to actually be able to get access (play) with all of the rooms and spaces in a large construction.

I ended up leaving the entire back open--rather than building the tower all the way around. This let me put a lot of detail into the rooms, build really large, but still have a fun creation.

A link to the folders showing the ground up progress of the 'other' large creation are (if you want to look) are:

Actually, this pic is a bit out of date since I've made some minor additions to the tower. But the size of it remains the same.

This is just the 1st of 12 Guard Towers in Bikolampur City-State's defenses. The Guard Walls are being built right now, but I need more pieces and parts for them.
