Lifestyles of the Brick and Famous

Post by SavaTheAggie »

Here's a question for you.

Is there one person you think of when someone says the words LEGO Castle? Perhaps one particular creation? Who cuddles your castle creativity?

For me? I think it'd have to be Ed Boxer. Specifically, Ed Boxer's white castle. It may not be as spectacular as other creations (though it's on the top ten of spectacularlyness, IMO), but it was *THE* creation that got me back into LEGO and on my way to becoming an AFOL (adult fan of LEGO).

How bout you?

A great topic as usual :D

I am a fan of many builders but I would have to say I owe many thanks for inspiration to:

Dan Siskind

His timber frame buildings, castle, and church are great. The larger building scale for minifigures complete with detailed interiors helped revolutionize many people's moc's. Plus he was the first in LEGO's moc series, which is something we all strive for.

A few of my other favorites include but are not limited to:

Jon Furman - great smaller versions of siskindian buildings with impressive details.
Lenny Hoffman (I hope his head doesn't get to big from this 8) ) Evolving on Furmania!
James Brink - 1980's classic castle meets the 21st century set design- great stuff!
Bob Carney - This man has too many bricks! As a student of medieval architecture, I love his castles.
Anthony Sava - Because dragons are cool and I want my giant chicken!

Pawel Nazarewicz: Devil's Gap

Daniel Siskind: Bloodstone Castle

PS I can't find either of these online anymore. Does anyone know where to find them (the creations, I mean)?

Bob Carney
Ed Boxer (first castle MOC I ever saw online)

Those two made me wanna out build them, and pretty much anyone else for that matter. Thanks to them, I've bought hundreds of bricks and Im in the process or redesigning my city-state fortifications to make them even more MASSIVE.
It was because of Carney that I got the idea to bypass castles and start making something larger than castles.... fortified city-states. :D

Dan Siskind

Was inspired to create the civilian side of life in the Ancient World. I even started searching the whole net to look for good ancient housing architecture. I have a pre-colonial Filipino multi-level house now. I've been thinking of starting a Chinese multi-level house as well. 8)

My castle heros?

Jon Furman's stuff is amazing in its elegant simplicity - he can use wall pieces and POOPs but still have the best details.
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/galle ... uan-Kenobi

Dan Siskind has pushed all LEGO castle building forward - by his amazing designs, but also for 3739 - which if you buy alot of, you can build mad.
http://www.brickmania.com/

Anthony Sava's Dragons are amazing and set the scale by which all creatures are compared - both biggies like Formie, and smallies like Chaos and the Griffon. But Anthony is also great for the biggest, meanest Chronicles ever - he's singled-handedly kept castle story-telling alive. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/galle ... vatheaggie

Jojo - i love the grand scale of Falkenstein and the Wizard's Tower - but the tiniest of details looked after.
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=Jojo

Onishi Shinji - http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/galle ... m=shinji-o just look at his stuff, and you will know.

there are many other great castle builders out there - new ones being discovered every day. Jason Spears and J. Brink's stuff is jaw-dropping. and the Colossal Contest is bringing out the best in everyone - suffice to say, my list of castle heros is not finished yet.
