Empire and Barbarians

Post by LEGOFREAK »

:D
A while ago a group of peaceful protesters got together to plan an ancient theme to submit to the Lego company. Sort of "this is what we are looking for" thing.
When we found out that we were getting a "banner" year for lego we decided to continue on with the project just because it is fun.

We chose the Roman Empire as our basis, just because. :D

I am making the stickers. It was suggested to me to post what I have so far here for opinions... so....

Hi. Your minifigs are very nice. It could be an interesting theme to create. The torso are nice too, and the faction logo on the shield.

But I have a comment. The oval shield is an invention of 11th century, if I remember well...

The round shield could fit better for the germans and a rectangle shield for the romans. But there is no rectangle shield for the moment. :?

right you are david!
but I am looking forward to the new octagon shields from the new sets, but they are a few months away. and they may not be so cheap on BL when they first come out... so for now - its ovals.

PS - the round shields are coming, I just wanted to show off the torsos on the barbarians. I like how they turned out..

You could always use the "Kraken technique". Take two 2x2 square road signs and a 4L light sabre bar (opaque) and combine the 3 pieces to get a Scutum (roman tower-shield).

I have seen that guys stuff around, and was impressed. but my idea was to make something not so complicated, and cheaper than paying 1.70 for a helmet.

Well those 3 piece shields are cheaper than the oval shields.

this was posted awhile ago, and I couldnt find the rest. But go here to join our group. (you can be in charge of stickers :D)

Guys i wanted to get this all in one thread so.

I think the general idea will be not to sell our own sets but to get lego producing again. If lego says they will never produce castle then perhaps we can look into production options. we will have the aparatis in place if we decide to go that way, but for now i think our mission is to get lego producing again.

anyone who is interested may join up the group is LongLiveCastle email longlivecastle@yahoogroups.com or you can email me for an invite at timber_wolf899@yahoo.com

i look forward to hearing from you guys. have a great weekend

well, I did a search on BL to find out prices, and here is what I found.
I decided to go for only ten shields, because some people would probably not make more than ten.
20 grey squares with the clip = 4.60 (.23 ea)
10 grey bars = .40
total 5.00 for ten shields

10 grey bull shields (what I actually used) = 2.50

Maybe if I used white road signs, but again, what I was going for was cheap helmet, not complicated shield. My son plays with anyone I create, and a three part shield would be in three parts in seconds.

I do like the rectangular look though, as it would make forming the testudo a much prettier affair. the ovoids just dont do it justice.

Blame Rick, he bought out almost all of the cheap 2x2 dark grey square road signs.

Hopefully, there'll be new sets with those pieces.
