Gate House - Work in Progress - feedback please

Post by bannear »

Just thought I would share my Gatehouse - It is a work in progress -continuing from where I got lost in CCCII contest.
I thought the front o' the gate was great, but may be too ornate.
(I hate it when that happens ...)
Two towers will go up on either side of the frontpiece, making it 4 stories high.
Need to add some flames to the front bar ... anyways let me know what you think.
Thanks.

I assume that you are talking about THIS gatehouse? If that's the case, I must say it certainly is interesting. It seems very ornamental, to the point of looking Eastern Asian. Allthough there are some nice details there, I really think that the gate itself is a tad low. It also seems a bit busy. Perhaps you should raise the entryway a bit, and build your own set of doors instead of using the small wood doors.

Still, quite interesting though,

Later.

Thanks for including the link in your post, BlueandWhite.
I obviously should not try to put messages up after midnight ...

I too feel that it seems East Asian, and perhaps too low as a horse and rider cannot get through the gate. Although in some keeps this was used as an advantage, requiring riders to dismount and lose their advantage in battle. I will have to work on it some more

I am not yet at the stage where I plan everything out in the building stage - or perhaps that is not my nature - so sometimes things take on an organic feel - growing as the pieces come out fo the bin.

Here it is for any others that wish to comment.

I think the design is great. Looks exotic, like the knight is far from home. Too much of the same grey, though. It needs more black or brown to break up the monotony. Keep up the good work!

It looks like something from LOTR rather than something from my region of Asia....

Interesting mix of colors though. You could also use some walls for that gate house.
