Blut'Ader - Links and discussion

Post by Devari »

Well, Pawel hasn't posted it here, so I guess I'll do it for him:

I must make sure you know this isn't mine (although I wish it was! :D).

So, discuss!

Very Nice Modularity. The village fits in well with the keep. Too bad he didn't post it here, I'd rather make comments to the builder. Thanks for posting the link though.

After a long absence, I have returned. I can't wait to start building again.

Now that looks like it would provide hours on good intertainment! I like the way he was able to use black bricks with out making the entire thing "evil". And the modular system works very well.

No problem. Yeha, it would have been better for him to post here, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't visit CC at all. And not being a LUGNET poster, I couldn't let him know that we have a bunch of rabid LEGO fans here that would want to see it... :D

Thanks for your comments. I do read CC, but I've mostly been a lurker. I guess I was waiting for the right time to start posting. This is as good a time as any I suppose :)

I used black bricks because I knew I would have to use a lot of 2x4's and 1x4's. Those were about 3-4 times as expensive in grey as they were in black. This was still in the days of 3033 tubs (1200 bricks for $20). Plus black had some good arches and slopes - the other requisite for building castles.

I mostly built it to be used in storylines, but recently there haven't been that many of them - or at least that I've seen. Maybe someday. Right now I'm heading back down to Georgia and away from my bricks. Dang!

Thanks!

Pawel,

I tried posting this on lugnet, but for some reason it wouldn't go through.

This is awesome! I remember at BF 2001 first seing your castle, and while it was
massive then, I remember there was no keep or main castle inside the walls. I like your
keep/inner ward a lot, especially the harbour area and great hall.

I'm presently just about to begin building the inner ward of my own castle,
which I hope to have completely inside the outer walls, making the whole thing
concentric. Blut Ader is great to look at because what I'm about to build will
be on a scale not dissimilar to yours, although I think your walls are thicker and higher.

Can I ask how high your walls and towers are both on the outer wall and the
inner wall/keep? The walls on my outer curtain wall are generally about 13
bricks high and 5-6 studs thick, with towers 8 to 12 bricks higher than that.
My inner wall will have to be higher, I'm hoping to make the walls over 20 bricks
high and the towers maybe 30 bricks or so high. I'll need to stock up on BFFs
for sure!

I just got a new digital camera (finally), so I'm hoping to get pictures out
there some time soon.

cheers

Magnus
