The rescue of Trumpkin (A Narnian MOC)

Post by JoshWedin »

Hey All,

I've had this idea for a while so I finally did something about it. It is from Prince Caspian. I know that Trumpkin is supposed to have a red beard but I didn't feel like painting one, so he gets a black beard. Let me know what you think!

Hey Josh,

This is pretty cool. The HP torso for Edmund is particularly appropriate (perhaps they should all be in school uniforms?). I probably would have used this head:

for Trumpkin and saved the Hagrid hair for Nikabrik. Also, your pic looks like they're on a riverbank, rather on (what they believe to be) an island.
I'd love to see more creations along these lines. You up to doing the whole Narnia series like I'm doing LotR? :P

You're right. I should have used that head. The Hagrid's hair does look more like Nikabrik. No, I don't think I am up to doing the whole series! I need a lot more practice on brick built beasts first. That why I did this scene, no animals. I'll think about it though. :)

Take care,
Josh

Pretty good Josh. A few things though. One, the boat could perhaps be a bit bigger, for five people later use it. Also (and this is just the way I see it) the forest wasn't crowded enough.

Still, good job. The telmarines look really good. And I thought the river (for that is what it is, just with two mouths) was done well. Though I never imagined Edmund with red hair, but that just me.

I think you did a great job. I especially like the use of a jewel for Lucy's cordial (the bottle was diamond, after all!).

One question, what sheild is Peter carrying? It's angled down and you can't see the front!

Look Awesome Man!I really like the look of the Children. I had pictured the forest with bigger trees as it was an old forest, but still it looks cool. I also like lucy's gift. Believe it or not the head you used for edmund is the same I have used! Great minds think alike I guess

From LWW, chapter X (when the children receive the gifts): "The shield was the color of silver and across it there ramped a red lion, as bright as a strawberry at the moment when you picked it."
Unless you want to sticker, this shield is probably the closest, though the triangular shape seems more "Narnian" to me:

These are the other lion options:

The first three seem very appropriate, with the crown signifying Aslan's kingship, though the last three are all rampant, fitting the original description. The KKII is only included for completeness.

Sorry to post this, you might smack me in the face now, but I don't know what Narnia is!!! What is Narnia?? Is it a book or something, is there a website about this stuff?

*edit* for the sake of posting with a reason, your MOC looks quite great, what shield did you use for the guy with a sword in his hand, just curious.

It annoys me no end that I can't remember this scene, but I have to give you a thumbs up for doing a Narnia scene at all. I can't remember having seen one in Lego before.

Narnia is a series of seven books, written by C.S. Lewis. I don't know about any sites, but they are easy reading and good books. They can be found at just about any library.

Wow, I didn't look at this thread in the morning and it grew by leaps and bounds! Thanks for all the comments! I appreciate the feedback. Okay, here it goes.

I angled the shield down on purpose. I didn't have a shield that I thought would work good for Peter so I made it so you can't see the front. I used the Crusader shield with the yellow background. I used it because the lion is rampant, like in the books, and the shield is triangular, like the original illustrations. The ovoid shields just don't look Narnian to me, maybe be good for Calormen or Telmarines though. The boat should be bigger but I wanted it to fit the baseplate so I used a little "builders license". :) Same with the trees. The forest should be full of big trees and very overgrown. The Telmarines believed the wood to be full of ghosts, so it really should be dark and spooky. I had the idea and limited building time, so I threw it together in a hurry. :?

Oh, Kenn, it is from the beginning of Prince Caspian. Just after the four kids come back to Narnia and find their gifts. Edmund has no gift, as he was not there when they received their gifts in the first book.

Is that the same C.S. Lewis who helped Tolkien create his fantasy world?

Yes, they were friends and both were professors at Oxford. They were both members of a group called the Inklings. They met periodically to discuss what they were currently writting. G.K. Chesteron, author of the Father Brown Mysterys, was also a member.

Back on topic, I have some other ideas for Narnian MOCs. I'll build them when I get the chance. Someone who is better at animals should give it a try as well.
