6081 Crusader MOC

Post by RuthleSs__PaLadin »

Hello,

I just finished this MOC based on 6081 set. I guess you can say I was inspired by Blue And White's MOC. I tried making it pretty similar to 6081 with a few touches here and there. As you can tell in some pics, I started to work on interiors but got lazy halfway. They arent accessible anyways. Please take a look and tell me what you think of it:

when public.

The reason I chose to do 6081 because its the only lego set I own with box and instructions and its a personal favorite. :D In the future I might recreate another of Lego's castle sets not sure.:?

Nice Castle Dan! I really like your use of landscaping to enhance the entire MOC. Your castle would have been good on a flat surface, but once you add in the rocks and valleys and it came out great! NIce Job. I've always enjoyed when people have taken existing Lego sets and expanded them into larger more realistic sizes :D

That's a great castle! A really good idea taking sets and redoing them. I would like to see the Black Knight's Castle done like that. :D

The inspiration is obvious, and you've done a great job of capturing the feel of the original set, while at the same time giving us a MOC that fits in very well building technique and landscaping-wise with many of the finest MOCs we've seen around here. Excellent job!

Hey!

Very nice both in detail and in the bigger picture. Really got to love that landscaping, great! Also the decorations on the outside are very well done you can absolutely see were it came from.

Would've liked to see the interior though :D

Ahh, well...

Love it! You dont get to see snow too often on Mocs and although a minor landscaping detail, it really sets your MOC apart. The castle itself is great. Its big but not overly big, exactly the scale I myself would have used had I the bricks.

Very nice.

I really like it when somebody draws inspiration from an original set. To me, it adds a certain 'nostalgia' to the work. I also like the snow, and I am pleased that you have used real doors this time  . This is truly a nice MOC.

I do have one question though. How do soldiers get up to the drawbridge? Is there a stairway under the rock?

Nevertheless, this is one of the nicer MOCs we've had the privilege of seeing this year!

Later.

Excellent moc!

I love the landscaping. The big tree is one of the best I've seen.

The chains on the drawbridge are a nice touch. I also love the multi-level effect youve achieved.

I like the courtyard and the 'street' area. Pity you gave up on the interior. Here's hoping you'll go back and add one.

One thing, that 'fleshy' fig looks out of place. Mybe she's the lego version of jaundice! :P

Great job! :D

Nice, very nice!
This truly deserves the title of "King's Mountain Fortress"!
I love the mountain/rocks you built the castle on!
The landscaping is great & the overall castle design is wonderful & full of detail.
I also liked the little village houses you included.
That tree is looking pretty good too!
The only thing I would add is some white plates (maybe a bunch of 1x1 plates) on the castle roof tops & in the trees to give it a "snowier" effect.

Very Nice work DAn,

You really created a nice looking castle. The smaller curtain wall really evokes the feel of the 6081 and the large tree was really nicely done. The arch detail you used to avoid the big grey wall syndrom looks great. I really like the tudor additons to the interior of the castle this addititon to a larger castle really makes it come alive. Nicely done.

I wouldn't worry overmuch about the finishing details for interiors, truly a castle that size has little need to have finished interiors. Most imprtantly, interior details you can't access anyway just use up parts you could use for another MOC.

Hi, thanks everyone for leaving a comment, I really apreciate it.
I would like to see the Black Knight's Castle done like that.
Don't be surprised if someone does it in the future. At this point my supply of black is low so I couldn't do it anytime soon.

I really like your use of landscaping to enhance the entire MOC.
Thanks!
Also the decorations on the outside are very well done you can absolutely see were it came from.
After reading about the big gray wall syndrom I decided I was going to try something new with arches.
you've done a great job of capturing the feel of the original set, while at the same time giving us a MOC that fits in very well building technique and landscaping-wise with many of the finest MOCs we've seen around here
Thats great, I put a lot of thought into this one, glad it worked out.
I do have one question though. How do soldiers get up to the drawbridge? Is there a stairway under the rock?
Hmm...Actually that land is suppose to continue, you can see the little road I placed leading to the drawbridge. Its suppose to be part of the mountain, but I didn't want to stretch it any more cause of my lack of dark grey rocks. I hope that answers your question...

Thanks again everyone for their kind reviews on my MOC, like i said earlier I apreciate it.

Hey Dan,

This is great! The landscaping is outstanding, as is that tree (though wouldn't the leaves be gone in winter?). I also really like what you've done with the arches and the black roof sections to avoid the BGW. I'd love to see more (and, to be honest, better focused--some are a little fuzzy) pictures of this.

Hello!

When I first read "6081 Crusader MOC" I didn't expect much and the folder wasn't yet public, so I simply skipped it.

And, boy, was I wrong! Sorry :-)

Your MOC is more than noteworthy. It's a great idea to turn a set into a "real" MOC, meaning to build something that's not only the original set with some enhancements but a creation that resembles the set's shape and spririt while it is a complete own creation.

Yours is exactly this. We have a mountain with snow, we have the castle with its gatetower section including the oriel (is that the right word?), with its massive rear tower section and with the court yard at the side. And there are the trees that are really nicely done. And we have your own portions to the castle, the extra turret on the main tower, the framework buildings at the connecting wall section and the reasonably and well shaped landscape.

I also like that you skipped this crossbow-machine-gun thingie at the main tower :-)

All in all I like this castle a lot!
