First Vignette: Drunken at the Gate

Post by Poshwa »

This is my first vignette. A Black Falcon guard gets a little too drunk at the outer wall. He enjoys a few last moments before the end.

Yes some of those figs have stickers(thanks to Mr. Sava), I don't have enough figs.

Please let me know what you think and how I should improve.

Neat. I didn't notice the stickers the first time I looked. If it weren't for you mentioning the stickers, I never would of noticed. :) Nice Job!

Hey,

I think this is a very nice vignette, but the presentation is poor. This is the only pic that actually shows the whole thing, and that is from a fairly extreme angle that hides the relative vertical placement of the different parts. I would generally suggest that in presenting any MOC, you want to include at least six different photos--four generally head on from the four different directions, one from above, and one from below. It's usually better, though, to be slightly off the orthogonal axes. So for a vig, I would place the camera even with about the middle of the vig, shooting towards each of the four corners, one very low looking up, and one high looking down. These last two are most important when the vertical aspect is key to the MOC (as in Prof. Whateverly's Jumper. For an example, see Nathan's recent pillow fight (though that doesn't have one from below).

Anyway, on the vig itself, I like the ground quite a lot with its mix of slopes and colors, and the men in the water too. I do question whether there would be a pond that deep just outside the gate.

The pond wouldn't be so deep if I could make the figs taller, but that I can't do. Thanks for the tips on camera angles. I'll retake pics later.

I like this vignette a lot. It's got a great sense of action (I can almost hear the hushed voices of the soldiers as they storm the gate). I would like some more pictures though if you can please. :D

I like the idea and some of the elements but can't really get a sense of the whole from your pictures - more please ... Maybe someone knowledgeable could add a "how to photograph your MOC" to the presentation pages of "How to".

Just some ideas based on what was said in the other notes:
If you turn your gate and not the landscape 90 degree you could make the water into a moat. Also if you want your figs to be less wet try using a blue 1x2 plate or 1x2 or 2 1x1's to raise them upi a bit - I believe I saw that in the Brick Testament.

Cheers,

Hey now,

Great vig! I like it, at first I didn't because of the photo problems that Bruce pointed out. But now I like it. :) I especially am fond of the crusader looking over the falcons shoulder through the battlements. One more thing to add to Bruce's comments, usually the first pic should be one where you can see the whole MOC. Then the subsequent pics are closeups, different angles, etc.

Take care,
Josh

I got a good lesson on photography through this MOC. I'm not very good with the picture stuff. My pics are only clear cause my digi-cam auto focuses and has a great close up. Thanks for all the tips.
