Cart and horde by Shaun Sullivan
Hi all,
Shaun Sullivan has posted a couple of castle-themed MOCs, a barbarian horde and a cart.
I especially like how he did the doors on the back of the cart.

The Horde was of decent size and was actually looked like a good beginning to a good horde. I like how you used the tribal torso for some of your soldiers...
The wagon was actually pretty cool. But after looking at it, 2 oh-so-simple questions popped up in my head.
1. Why do the horses have a piece of armor on?
2. What's with the girl in the back?
Yea... thats pretty much it...

Just a note, DDDDM, Bruce didn't make these MOCs. If you reread the original post, you'll notice that Shaun Sullivan is the builder.DarkDotDotDotMan wrote:The Horde was of decent size and was actually looked like a good beginning to a good horde. It's not a huge deal, but I figured it would be best to point it out, since Bruce is the MOCs Admin, and is consequently highlighting posts all the time for our edification.
Ya, I'm trying to figure out where the leg assembly comes from. Does anyone have the answer? It's a great combination for a movie-style warrior princess.DarkDotDotDotMan wrote:2. What's with the girl in the back?

I saw this late last night - I like the horde - I like the helms - are they custom? ok found them at Red Bean ...
I also like the choice of faces and the use of bare torsos - now for a few hundred more and the horde rules!
The cart is nice - one more brick high and the figs could get into the back without ducking, but perhaps that effects the balance. I initially wondered if the "Princess" was a prisoner in the cart - with the chain and squashed quarters - but you usually don't give prisoners weapons ...
I like the idea of the hinges on the doors, but not sure about the tiles being on the inside rather than the outside - interesting effect. I like the use of the textured bricks to give the feel of boards.
Nice work.
Cheers
SirBert.

I liked the cart. It reminded me of a gypsish kinda of vehicle. The horde wasn't too impressive. Just a bunch of guys wearing other people's customs.

Ha! I torched that Kart good!
This whole thing was for a BrikWars game this past weekend:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=120222
The concept of the game was that 3 kings are on the brink of war. Each king has a secret "safehouse" on the border of their kingdom, and each king has an item of immesurable value that he'd like to protect. So, each sends their item off with a small convoy to protect it, just in case war breaks out. As chance would have it, all 3 karts (each containing an item) all happen to meet at the same place at the same time, and do battle.
And since we had another player (Dan Boger of Peeron fame) who didn't have a kart and couldn't build one in time, Shaun built him a barbarian horde, who happened to be lying in wait for the 3 kings' treasures.
What's with the princess? She's an item of immesurable value, of course! Players could choose what their item was (Warrior princess, primitive cannon (TL3 mortar), Greek Fire Flamethower, or cage of poison frogs).
Why are there so few barbarians? (because) that's all the game would allow a budget for! I'm sure Shaun could make a larger army if the game required it. In fact, he even had a rather comical barbarian wagon that isn't posted (comical in the sense of the game since it was pathetically armored).
Why do the horses have armor? To give them more protection! Not that it helped them in the game. The barbarians killed one of his horses right away.
You can see my Kart here (made from cast iron so it wouldn't combust, pushed by a team of 6 slaves):

He's not the only one with a Barbarian horde, I'd say mine could beat the snot out of both.
Mine have been around for about 2 years, but I was never all that impressed with them until I bought the oriental pikes.
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/wlist ... 002628.jpg
Shaun's definitly have a better assortment of armor and helms though. I have another 35 or so with ninja armor like LotL's, but I stick with the dark grey bat helm and the islander torsos. Those Norman Osbournes are pricey.
I really like the cart, looks almost Gypsy like.

I like the door you made for the back. Is that an original design, or did you see it somewhere else?

Um, I guess it's original-- there's part that you might not be able to see, which is what I think makes it really cool. It uses the little 1x2x1 panels on the right-hand side of the door:footsteps wrote: I like the door you made for the back. Is that an original design, or did you see it somewhere else?
These allow the door to swing open and close better than if it were solid bricks, but it does create a gap when viewing the door from the other side. Actually, I came up with the idea when designing a large-scale space vehicle. And while I did come up with the design myself, I wouldn't be overly suprised if it's been used elsewhere.

Hey Dave,
Thanks for explaining the MOCs. Looks like it was a fun Brikwars game. BTW, who built those great brick-built and plate-built trees?

Any game where all the participants are burned to a crisp at the end is fun in my bookBruce N H wrote:Looks like it was a fun Brikwars game.
(If only I realized how quickly fire would spread across the board!)
The trees seen here were built by Jorge Fernandez:Bruce N H wrote:BTW, who built those great brick-built and plate-built trees?

Hm. The "solid" ones seen... uh.. well... I guess you can see 2 here... were built by Shaun Sullivan:

And the design-I-can't-take-any-credit-for trees were built by me (you can spot 3 in this picture)
