My first Castle movie and first post in CC.

Post by Pepa Quin »

Hi there,
My name is Matt, and I'm a regular in the FBTB forums. I've been doing a lot of stop-motion lately, and this is the first film I've officially finished.

This film is very short: I originally made it for the Cadillac five-second movie contest. I didn't win or place, but it was lots of fun to make.

I've uploaded it to archives.org, and you can view the film in several formats here: http://www.archive.org/movies/details-d ... noyRevenge

The original file is the MPEG-2 file, which is 640x480 and just under 3M.

Thanks for looking, and I hope I'll be posting again here soon!

Hello and welcome Pepa Quin! I was trying to watch your movie, and it wouldn't work for me. You should check the file and see if that is the problem.

From what it showed in the little thumbnail image, the movie looks like it has a good background.

I want to see your movie. I make LEGO movies as well.

 Great job, absolutely fantastic. Short yes but it's sure to give all us AFOLs a good laugh. Very well done if I may say so. And please if you do any more of these be sure to let us all know. Very creative and lots of fun to watch.

I'm going to have to agree with everything kingkastle just said. I can't really say there is anything wrong but as a tip, don't make them "gory" I used to know a site and TLC closed em down.

And its good to see another Matt 8)

Haha, that was sweet. The dissolve from knight to skeleton was a great idea. Only one problem: how the heck did the skeleton kill the crusader? He didn't have any weapons. The time lapse doesn't make any sense either, that crusader wouldn't have possibly waited around for the, what, five months? that it takes for a corpse to skeletonize, but I can understand that you might not have wanted to build another set. Set problems always ruin my movies.

Regardless of any gaping plotholes (well, c'mon, it's a five second clip) you did a good job on the animation and the set. Are there any more in the works?

Welcome to Classic-Castle, Matt.

I can't get any of your files to play on Windows Media Player. Keeps claiming a "codec" error. What do I do to see your flick?

Hmm, works for me (Mac, in streaming mode). Very well done. As with others, my favorite part is the dissolve to the skeleton, and also the change from happy skull to mean skull and back again. Very clever.

Nice little clip - I want to see the next guy turn into a skeleton and then the perpetual battle they will have ...
I like the fade to skeleton and the head change as well. It is really hard to see the skeletons dagger in white, so you might want to use a more contrasting coloured weapon next time.
I think you could make a nice vignette out of this. anybody doing animation on vignetttes yet?
Cheers,
SirBert.

Okay, it took a half dozen or so attempts, but I've finally seen it. I like it too.

One quibble is that it's too quick. Maybe if the same amount of action took place over a few seconds more (i.e. 7 or 8 in total) it would be easier to follow.

Thanks for all the comments, guys!

For those of you having trouble downloading, I feel your pain! My computer viewed these all in Quicktime but if you don't like it or don't have the latest version, you don't have to go downloading it on my account.

Yeah, I know it's short - but that's the time limit set by Cadillac ( see winning non-lego entries here: http://www.cadillacunder5.com )

For the skeleton's knife, I changed it to a glow-in-the-dark knive I'd just gotten that very day. (Chamber of Secrets set at TRU for $7. Score!) Can't say why, but I think I figured that instead of having the nice shiny knife he'd now have ghost knife?
Hmm.. best not to think about it too much. ;)

As for any time-lapse, I suppose it's up to interpretation. Could be just a few second, or could be a few months of decomposing.

This was lots of fun to make. I don't normally do castle stuff (I'm a space/SW guy) but I do like to give myself a varied spectrum of MOCs.

I've also been hanging out in the CC chatroom late at night if anyone has any other questions for me.

See you around!

Hey, great short!

And I like that it is so quick. For one, I think it would take more skill to do quicker action; especially there at the end where the camara pans over to follow the skeleton. And, it would be quick in really life too.

Welcome, and great introductory creation!
