Hi all,
Komi has posted this scene called Battledragon.
I really love the face of the dragon--using that Bionicle piece for a nose is perfect. The light-up effect is potentially quite cool but could be photographed much better.

Well, I suppose that's all a matter of interpretation. In some ways I would say yes, in that this captures a moment in time and tells a story in minature. Even some of the construction ideas are driven by the desire to imply a larger scene that goes beyond the footprint of the MOC. That said, 16x16 is quite big and even goes beyond the "supervig" in Nelson and Nathan's Vignette FAQ. I debated with myself for a while, but decided to not post this one on VignetteBricks, even though it's such a cool MOC.

Very kool. I love the brick-made dragon body sitting on the wall. The whole scene is really kool; I'm not a big fan of the way he made the 'fire' though. I realize it was to get the light up effect, but I think it could have been done better. Nonetheless, it does look pretty sweet in the one lit up photo, although that too could have been done better. The one thing I really like about it is that it looks like the dragon's actually melting the stone; the bottom looks a bit like lava.

Awesome dragon! Very well built. And the dragon made me laugh, I love its face.

I have to agree completely. That is my only critique of this MOC. It looks like the dragon is throwing up. It just doesn't look like fire. But the rest of the MOC more than makes up for it. I give it a 9.5/10.porschecm2 wrote:I'm not a big fan of the way he made the 'fire' though. I realize it was to get the light up effect, but I think it could have been done better.

AFOL and his money are easily parted.

As with the others, I agree that the fire doesn't exactly work as such, but I think that this is overall a very well-done vignette.
That's right, I called it a vignette. That's what it is: a relatively small scene, capturing a single moment of time, and is contained on a "cut-out" baseplate of a square footprint, and appears to be chopped from a greater story or scene.
In my opinion, that is what constitutes a vignette, thus this is a vignette.
As I recall back in Sir Nelson's thread that got the whole "what is a vignette?" issue burning, either Bruce or Sir Nelson dared the audience in general to build a 32x32 vignette, thus proving the possibility of doing such a thing. This isn't quite a 32x32, but I think it goes a long way to proving that a vignette can be more than an 8x8.
Cordially yours, (with an eye to stirring up discussion)

And I agree completely for all the reasons Mike stated.Formendacil wrote:In my opinion, that is what constitutes a vignette, thus this is a vignette.
Regarding this MOC: Wow! The dragon is great (dare I say -- cute?), and the glowing lava is simply awesome! As everyone else has said...the actual dragon-breath needs some work.
Hmm...this MOC is so cool, I might build something like it...

I like the idea presented, but I think the Dragon is too "cute" with the eyes and nose like that. The Dragon fire/lava light up is a neat idea, but I think starting with 1 rounds or something and building a bit more organic shape would have been better. I would also like to see some more work on the wings to make them more spined.
That being said - I didn't make one - so it's all nit picking - good job.
SirBert.
