I like the list - there are times when I build something like a certain roof or a wall section and then am stumped for what sort of a building it should be on.. after all - its the details that make a really good moc.

and thanks for the great article.

I love it! as soon as I saw it, I printed it out, added to it, and set to work. Some great ideas that I have never thought of in there.

That list is great, especially for those of us like me who are creatively lazy once we are finished with the building. :D

I just had a few thoughts bouncing around in my head so I jotted them down... let see...

1.) Artist studio (Rambrant, or who ever)
2.) Corral (for horse breaking)
3.) Garage (for the "royal" coach)
4.) Inventors lab (I didn't want a wizard in my town so I needed an inventor)
5.) Look out tower (inspired by the fire towers/lookout towers in Return of the King)
6.) Flower mill (I wasn't sure if the wind mill counted, but... ok so I'm sleep deprived)
7.) Parade Grounds (inspired by the home page at CC!!)
8.) Port (I have a few ships, need a place to put them)
9.) Poultry shop (KILL THE CHICKENS!!)
10.) Produce shop (I wanted to give the Farmer a place to sell his wares)
11.) Storage tower (an anti-siege tower)
12.) Ship yard (a place for my ships to come from)
13.) Toll booth (my king is kinda poor, he needed some income)
14.) Town square (ehhh anyway)
15.) Well (I wanted a decoraded well in "my wifes" garden)
16.) Wool shop (inspired by James Brinks wonderful creation http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=64809)
And Finaly
17.) Wagon repair (for the poor towns folk that can't afford the blacksmith)

All in all you gave me a wonderful starting place... I have enough ideas to build for quite a while!!!

Thanks! That list is really great for a guy like me who is just starting out and doesn't know what his medieval village should have in it.:D

Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

Ok.... I suppose that IS quite realistic.

Call it a brothel. Sounds less dirty. :)

It's already on the list anyway. Even though it would be fun/funny to have one, my LEGO village won't contain a house of prostitution. I just think it's kind of against the idea of the toy.

interesting idea that. Lego minifigs going into a brothel... disturbing.

question, did they have resturants in the midevil ages?

I did forget the tourture chamber and the monastary. Thanks DM. btw,
secret house (house with a secret passage for "Jacques" type meetings)
Is this a LOTR charactor or a Belgarade charactor?

To be honest, I am not sure if there were many medievel restaurants or not.

I believe "Jacques" refers to the book Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens

I'm no expert, but I believe most pre-prepared food needs were handled by the local Inn or Tavern/Pub. Most Taverns/Pubs serve food, and I believe this was true back then. Inns I think typically served food as well, though I have a feeling it wasn't quite complimentary. I would suspect that the Inn Keeper and his family would host guests at their family meals if paid to do so.

Other such places would probably be a bakery or a butcher, where prepared food would be ready for people to purchase. The bakery would obviously sell preprepared food, and I don't think you'd have to stetch very far to see a butcher with a smoke house or grill.
