Well, it's all done now! Interior, everything.
I call it, "Elkshire Keep".

Seriously, it is entirely your perogative to build how you want. I look at pics of real castles and then work it out in LEGO elements in my head (my mind's eye, as it were) No I do not try and copy historical castles, but the structurally significant details, those, I try to replicate.

So far it is looking decent.

Yep, I think the beginning looks pretty solid, and I especially like the look of the arched ceiling rafters... the interior will be the "make-or-break" part of it in terms of going from good to great ~

I thought about that before I began building and thats why Im making the Keep shell completely seperate from the interior supports/floors. So if I screw up or am not satisfied with the interior, I can always just take the interior apart & rebuild it.

Smart! Thats a good idea I never considered... wish I had thought about that - sooner!

What a fascinating idea! Does that mean that the finished walls will have to be at least two-studs thick (one for the exterior shell; one for the interior insert)? Can you show pictures of how you are making that work?

Nope, there's only one wall and it's two studs thick.
The interior supports on the 4 corners (inside the keep) will be pressed up against the wall, so that should make them sturdy enough.
I'll have to figure out how Im gonna include a stair case some where in there

And I just finished on the outside of the keep. It's pretty tall. 35 bricks up to the battlements & 49 bricks up to the tippy top of the roof. The Keep is like 28 studs square excluding the small outer drawbridge portion.
I'll put more pics up when Im done with the interior of the Keep & the outer portion of the castle complex.

It looks really good. I especially like the different window designs and the the interior is very lived-in feeling.
