Tower of Judgment

Good evening,

This is my biggest MOC yet. It pretty much exhausted my pieces. Folder here when moderated.

This tower is one of four corners of a castle. I'll need to buy a whole lot more if I plan on finishing what I have in mind. It would be huge.

It has 4 levels including the base which is a dungeon. The next level is where the Judgment takes place(The balcony would be where they would watch any execution http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=163237 . I had to dismantle that MOC though(needed the parts). The next is a guard house that joins the two side walls. The next is the very top.

The interiors are not complete and i'll finish them soon.

Inside the walls...almost done. Maybe tomorrow.

Very nice, I especially like windows and the battlements, as well as the willow tree and the plants slowly climbing the sides of the tower. The ivy on the wall sections is also a simple, but well done, solution.

Just imagining a castle with four such towers, a gatehouse, and a keep makes me want to visit it. I can see in my mind's eye stables, and kitchens, and smithies, and barracks *rambles on*. But back to the MOC at hand. I like how high the walls are, most castles I see around the 'net don't really have walls that are realistically high. The roof of the tower looks good, and I also like the brown tiles on the battlements. Your use of tiles instead of plates in some places breaks up the wall because of the groove (and this is a good thing ). The subtle use of dark grey really helps this tower, and the abundance of round bricks adds nice architechtural detail.

I love what you did on the Crenellations and windows!

It looks beautiful. However, I have a qualm with a possible oversight of it's design: I understand the purpose for both the door and balcony... but why is it facing outwards?

Shouldn't it be on the inner part of the wall, facing the curtain wall's courtyard? It would be quite a weak point in the castle/citadel's. Even if the enemy can not get to the otherside of the wall.... the point is that sappers or petards could find a way to weaken that part of the walls due to the ability of accessing that hollow portion of the tower.

If it was on the other side, facing inwards, this would not cause any defense problems.

This is my favorite of your creations by far. It has a great fantasy feel to it, at least for me. The landscaping is very well done, and believable. The crenellations and windows are great, too.

I want more! :D

Whoa! I'm totally in awe! SUPERB castle CAI! I wish I had enough gray bricks to do something like that!

Holy cow!!!! That tower is awesome! I agree Histo-Sci, I wish I had enough gray bricks to do something like that too! Awesome. Can't wait to see the interiors. I do them while I am building, instead of afterward. Probably a newbie thing   :?

Wowee Chad! This is a great MOC. I particularly like the way you did the windows and the variety of gray figs as reliefs along the walls. The willow is great as well. Looking forward to the interior.

Hey, spectacular work. The thing which caight my eye first was the landscaping. I actually like how you can't tell where the ground ends and the tower starts. I would agree with JPinoy about the door/balcony. However I think as a stand alone tower it works great. I like the mottling, the crenelations and the windows. Also the statues around are neat as well as the tree and the very top roof.

In short I like it alot! My main concern is with the large empty space that overhangs above the balcony. Some relief work, design or something would have been great in there.

Overall a great job, and I would love to see a finished interior. Keep it up!

That really looks beutiful(no literally).I mean the round bricks, the statues, the ellegant crenallations, and just thhe overall design is really cool.Like others have said the landscaping is great though I think it could be a bit lower. The willow is also excellent.Altogether an excellent job, hoping for interior soon :)

That's some fine work there.

As others have said, the door on the second level looks out of place. Despite such an oddity, this is easily one of the nicest castle MOCs I've had the fortune of viewing in some time. The landscaping is quite nice, and the willow tree looks beautiful.

I can only hope that my next major MOC looks 1/2 has nice. Great work.

Later.

Thanks for all your kind comments guys and suggestions. I'm also undecided about the balcony. That idea sprang when I still had the Execution MOC going. You can tell in that MOC that it would join up with the prison door, and Lords would watch the exectution from a safer height.

I may change it though. It would be easy to change if I will.

I'm off to the post office soon, I'm hoping the few parts are in that I needed for the inside walls. I think you may like the other side even better.

Cheers.

Hey, this looks great!
I love all the vegetation you included toward the bottom part of the walls, it looks really good.
I like the unique window and battlement designs too.
I guess the balcony is a little weird looking. (smaller doors would probably look much better)
Other than that, it looks fantastic.
Nice photography too!

Oooohhh...

Pretty.

Pretty awesome! Your use of those 1x1 cylinders strikes me dead on those windows, and your tree's about the only use I could suggest for those crazy green vines. Nice relief on the walls, the cross is a particularly good use of that otherwise space-only part.
