Roman frontier
Roman frontier
I've posted a page with Roman standards, army cast, wooden palisades, and a watchtower. It's not medieval, but is made to the CCC standard.
Thanks to Jedipawn for posting a few Roman-army links that inspired this.

Im still amassing troops, and waiting for parts to come in to get as much of that giant Kahilawayan city-state completed as fast as possible.

this is very nice indeed! I like how the three palacide walls run into the tower! I Also like the moral-boosting flag, but I would hate to be the one who carries the flag into war. Poor guy....And look! You even have the king(Emporor?) Waving down at his battle ready troops! Great attention to detail!

The only ancient civ I don't have is the Romans. Instead of them, I have 2 of their predecesors, the Etruscans, and the Samnites.

Awsome stuff dude! I like the palisade walls! I wish I bought fort LEGOardio back when it was a classic. I think it would be nice if lego had a Roman line. Because if there is one thing I like about the Romans, its the armies!

Thanks for all your feedback! It's much appreciated.
Architect: The standards were fun. They look better in pictures since they don't look "deep" when photographed. The trophy of arms, for example, was three or four bricks deep.
Palisade fortresses eat through 1x6x6 brown wood walls pretty fast. I am working on an American frontier palisade fort in the 3CS standard on a 4x4 set of 32-stud baseplates, and I'm probably going to have to order some more through BrickLink.
The thing about Roman defenses is the incredible scale. Their "front lines" were earthworks with kilometers of spiked pits, trenches, raised earthen rings, and the like. In addition, their camps were usually fortified stone cities much larger than castles. So I decided to set my sights a little smaller, and found some info for a small fur trading fort.
JPinoy: Your K. tower is very impressive. I'd love to see the curtain wall to go with it! Do you have any plans to show your armies in action?
I like the Roman army during the empire because of their organization and tactics, and because they made a point of learning from their enemies.
moom: I've always been a big fan of Mr. Quah's Japanese castles. Actually, the first big MOC I made after my dark ages was a Japanese-style castle on a 3x3 set of 32-stud baseplates. I still have the keep and other buildings, including a covered bridge. However, the area was ravaged by an earthquake and it's in many pieces.
Jedipawn: No minifigs were changed in the making of these scenes. I just combined the old samurai ninja guy (the banded armor) with the leggings from some Indians.
Akochan: I LOVED Asterisk and Obelisk! I recently reread my copy of the Egyptian one I got as a kid, and it still is funny and well-done.
Barbapple: Thanks much! Actually, carrying the standard was a position of honor and respect, second only to the centurion in a century (80 men). The standards were so important, actually, as symbols of honor that when one Roman emporer recovered a legion's standard that was lost to the enemy, he had the scene embossed on his personal armor. I think they held a triumphal parade, too (like a tickertape parade today). The guy waving was just the commander of a legion (5000-6000 men): Rome had a really big army.
Dragon Master: Before I got married, I bought three or four Legoredos. I really like that set: I think it's one of the best-designed castles the company has created.

Thanks for those links Moom,
I had seen the second link quite a while ago and really liked it then. At some point, I must have lost the link and then forgotten about it. Typical for me BTW. Anyway glad to add it to my bookmarks once again.

After a long absence, I have returned. I can't wait to start building again.

Oh that little 4'2" tall thing. Its only the first of several towers that surround a city-state and yes, there will be a curtain wall that connects the towers, the gates, and protects the whole city-state which is already on a large tropical island in S.E. Asia.catena wrote: JPinoy: Your K. tower is very impressive. I'd love to see the curtain wall to go with it! Do you have any plans to show your armies in action?

But army collection and building material allocation has slowed down now. Im re-thinking about everything I do in life. Im still in college but Im 2 to 3 years away from landing my career in the medical field. Plus.... a particular young woman I've known for a while and have fallen for.... Its not that she disapproves of it, its just that Im thinking of things more important right now than my Lego hobby.
I have no plans on stopping my hobby, just turning the torrent of Lego in my mail into mere drips. So it'll be a while till I can put up a full wall, or make my army collections complete.
