2. What would you like to see for the coming LC? Will we jump on the bandwagon and host a contest similar to that of Garheim and the Outlaws? Also, if one of you would like to host a contest for a change, PM me! A new major LC could be launched 1st of August.

I think we should alternate between building scenes and structures for the local challenges. We've had build-challenges for watchtowers and ships, maybe it's time for a dedicated battle scene (maybe something like invaders from the sea or a manhunt for a single, very dangerous outlaw - think Carcer from Diskworld: Night Watch)

A relatively last minute entry to the Dueling Contest, especially considering that I took this picture two weeks ago:

While returning with a Lenfald division from the swamps, Seamus O'Callaghan hears about the Dueling Contest. Seeing another chance to earn money and improve his status in Lenfald, he enters Marcus Aurelius in as a contender. Seamus, in contrast, is heading to the north to seek the Sword of Karlamac, another potential path to fame.

Dueling Challenge Results!

The Heraut slowly walked to the middle of the field, cleared for the contest. On the sidelines, many people from around the area had gathered. "The dueling contest will now begin! First, let me introduce our contestants!"
He rolled out a large piece of parchment, and read out the names of the champions...

TheBoyWarrior - Sir Marius
Albatross_Viking - Sir Ustrichus etc. etc.
Fireglade - Jirach Beofyre
Mitah - Lord Val Karem
Petturik - Elleanora of Gatsby
Soccerkid6 - Lord Tostig (can be found on this page)
Muskey15 - Seamus O'Callaghan
Elderon - Velaryon of Strongborough

After a long and boring list of names and titles, the actual contest was ready to start. The heraut left the field, and made way for the first round.

1. Sir Marius VS Sir Ustrichus
The first fight was already exciting, and lasted for more than 10 minutes! The two champions seemed on par with one another, but in the end a failed parry led to a close victory for Sir Marius. (6 vs 5)

2. Jirack Beofyre VS Lord Val Karem
The heavy armor lord Val Karem wore in his contest proved to cumbersome against Jirack Beofyre's light equipment. Jirack wore down his opponent, in the end claiming a relatively easy victory. (4 vs 2)

3. Elleanora of Gatsby VS Lord Tostig
Even though Elleanora of Gatsby was famous for winning many local tournaments, this time proved she bit more than she could chew. The more experienced Lord Tostig claimed victory after 3 minutes. (3 vs 5)

4. Seamus O'Callaghan VS Velaryon of Strongburrough
Both contestants started of strong, but as the combat stretched over a larger amount of time, Seamus became careless and started to wildly hack around. Velaryon took advantage of this, and snatched victory with a sneaky low attack to the leg. (1 vs 4)

Thus, the winners of the first round are Sir Marius, Jirach Beofyre, Lord Tostig and Velaryon of Strongburrough!

1. Sir Marius VS Jirach Beofyre
This match took very long to finish. Both contestants started of weak, and needed to take a half-time break after 20 minutes of unending fighting. After a short rest, an intense battle started, which Sir Marius eventually won when he splintered one of Jirach's axes and opened a hole in his defense. (1 vs. 1, 6 vs 4)

2. Lord Tostig VS Velaryon of Strongburrough
This fight took much shorter than the previous. Both Tostig and Velaryon were quite tired already, but in the end, Velaryon proved to have a stronger stamina. He took a close victory with an upward slash against Tostig's armor. (2 vs 3)

Thus, the finalists are Sir Marius and Velaryon of Strongburrough!

Sir Marius VS Velaryon of Strongburrough
After an intense battle that took over an hour to finish, Velaryon took victory. After twisting around his opponent's parry, he used the knob of his sword and knocked Sir Marius out clean. His new helmet quite dented and his armor full of scratches and small cracks, he raised up his sword and screamed with joy and relief. The High Lord personally congratulated Velaryon, and he received the special title "Champion of the Duels" for his victory, along with a sum of money. (3 vs. 4)

Congrats Elderon!

- Short dueling stories were added by me, and were based on the amount of points a contestant had during the dice throw.
- The results of the dice throws can be seen at the end of each combat. The first number represents the amount of eyes for the first mentioned contestant, the last number represents the amount of eyes for the last mentioned contestant. Example: in A vs B with result (6 vs 4), contestant A had 6 eyes and B had 4 (so A won). If there are two sets of numbers, two throws were needed to determine a winner.
- The winner receives two (2) personal points. The title mentioned in the final's summary is fictional, and only for the sake of storytelling. It does not have any in-game influence.

Thanks for participating, everyone!

New Character!

“They say he’s always watching. They say he’s never far off. They call him…… The Wanderer.”

There are dozens of small villages dotting the woods and countryside of Lenfald. More and more are being built as we speak. These villages are the homes to the commoners of Lenfald. Farmers, farriers, blacksmiths and the like. There is only one uncertainty; outlaws and raiders. Men, orcs and other foul creatures that seek to raid and destroy.
Many of the High Lords men patrol the countryside trying to protect the innocent people that live in these villages. But they can never protect all of the villages.
That is why Orzir Barrennak has sworn to protect the people of Lenfald. His Legendary archery skills and swordsmanship make him a force to be reckoned with. He is never seen, never heard, the only time you know when he’s around is when his black arrows come arcing out of the sky and burying themselves in an outlaws chest.
The people call him…… The Wanderer.

Dear Lenfel,

Today we mourn the untimely demise of Eli Ravenwood, former hero of Lenfald. Let him go to his ancestors in peace.

However, it is not at all an entirely sad time, for Lenfald welcomes a new hero! One only few really know of. He is known as the Wanderer...

Oh wow, that waterfall is beautiful! Good luck in the GC!

In other news, you can expect two minor LC's instead of one big one this month. The first one should be up in a few days. It will have a relatively short run time, so I'm curious to see how many of you will enter!

Hear ye, hear ye!
After building up our defenses with watchtowers and outposts, and rebuilding our glorious fleet, our High Lord Godfrey Wenseclaus II, in all his wisdom, has decided that this is an appropriate period to collect the taxes from the people of Lenfald. All the people will be visited by officials soon, and will be required to pay their part!

The Challenge!
After commissioning the building of a string of watchtowers and a navy, the coffers of the High Lord were left quite empty. And when a Lord runs out of money, he takes more from his people... Build a small scene showing your character (or another Lenfald Official) collecting the tax from the commoners.

The Rules!
- You may include taxing anyone in any form (like a toll, a tribute or a medieval "Tenth"). Try to be creative!
- The baseplate of your creation may be no larger than 32x32.
- The people might not always cooperate smoothly, but are generally loyal. Therefore, you are allowed to show the use of mild force, but NO excessive force (such as killing, burning, you get the idea...)
- Post your MOC in the "MOC forum", then send me a PM with the link to your MOC. Your entry will NOT be counted unless you send me a PM!

The deadline for this challenge will be August 30th, 2012 at 23:59 Amsterdam Time! (GMT+1 summertime)

Judging and results!
Since we're going to be quite busy in the coming few weeks, with the GC2 ending, the map making contest coming up and a large LC to be launched September 1st, I don't want to overcomplicate things by organising yet another vote. Judging will therefore be done by me and special guest Mark of Falworth, Overseer of Loreos! Results will be announced as soon as the judging process has been finished. I cannot enter in this LC.

For entering, you will receive 4 Points. The winner will receive an additional 4 points, and the runner-up an additional 2 points.

Extra Information!
- The emphasis of this challenge lies with atmosphere and scene buidling.
- As always, quality over quantity. Big does not necessarily mean best!
- Please post all questions about the LC in the Faction Thread, so that all can see the question AND the answer.

Leg Godt, For Great Lenfald!

- Teherean

Free build -- Road work

Prior to joining up, I had given some thought and did a lot of "story boarding" on MOCs I wanted to build for my character, Alexander DeCoboray. In order to flesh out his personality, I thought up some "free builds" to show what kind of nobleman he would be. The first was indicated in his intro/backstory -- developing the infrastructure in the localized lands he held stewarship over. This free build is his overseeing road repair work:

I had first wanted to have the workers laying down a terra cotta pipe -- as used by the Romans, and more akin to Alexander's "classical" education. However, I realized that there may not be a source of clay, and that considering Lenfald's resources, a wooden pipe would far more appropriate (as long as it is not exposed to air, wooden pipe does not rot nor deteriorate). In this vignette scene (or bignette scene), I tried to squeeze in survey and mapping work, and then the laying of a culvert pipe, along with some workers removing larger stones in the road and other workers packing in dirt to fill potholes.

Of course, it is a rough and rugged wood scene, to match the landscape of Lenfald. This road is a local road connecting the villages of Shepton and Lithburg (check my photostream on Flickr for a reference map). I would like to say that the road is caliche, hence its tan color, but again you need a quarry for that...

If this is not the appropriate thread for Lenfald free builds, let me and I will delete.
