Where will Brickfest 08 be held?

Post by Prince Imdol »

If Brickfest o8 will be held in Washington, DC I will be able to come! I have already been planning some stuff. Does anyone know where it will be held and the dates, or a site that can tell me?

From everything I've heard the existence of Brickfest 08 is very much in question.

From my personal observations, I doubt Brickfest will ever again occur in DC. Only time will tell, as it's entirely up to Christina (and organizers).

If you'd like, you can visit the website here and maybe inquire.

Ooooooh What is Brickfest? I've heard of it before, and it sounds cool. What is it, like, about?

Velliscig - If you follow the link I provided and take a moment to look around the site, there's this description:
Brickfest Website wrote:BrickFest is a convention for Adult Fans of LEGO® (AFOL). The focus is on having the fans bring their favorite creations, often referred to as MOCs (aka My Own Creations), to display and share with their fellow adult enthusiasts. We also have many workshops, presentations, special events and challenges scheduled throughout the weekend. This event celebrates the gathering of the fan community that has evolved as a result of the internet as well as exploring and developing the LEGO hobby. Almost every aspect of the hobby will be available to explore.

Many within the community really enjoy talking about and sharing their hobby not just with fellow AFOLs but also with others. On Sunday during the event, we will open our doors to the general public. We extend an invitation to the general public to come join us, take a look around and see some of the amazing things we have done with LEGO.

BrickFest is a event driven by the fan community. Started in 2000, BrickFest has been held in the Washington, DC area and Portland, Oregon. Each year the event has grown in size and complexity. This will be the 9th event, and we look forward to making it the best to date.

That'd be a big let down for us if it wasn't out east anymore, and we haven't even gotten to our first one yet! My wife and I could easily drive a few hours down to DC, but flying across the country (to Portland, or even Chicago) would be much harder to pull off.

My dad is a pilot, so a flight down to DC is no swet, but to Oregon......that is too far. It is really too bad if they don't hold it in the east coast again. I will be sad. I really do hope there will be one in DC again.

There was no BrickFest 07.... can we have a BrickFest 08?

If they don't want to hold it in DC, thats fine. So how about holding it in NY or NYC even?

There's larger concentrations of not just people, but AFOLs in the tri-state area.

Or maybe, *gasp*, perish the thought, hold it closer to the rest of the country... say... towards the middle? Like Tennessee or Missouri? Let the guys who live in the south have a shot at going?

Odd, I was at BrickFest 07 and had a really good time. :)

Just 'cause it was in Portland doesn't mean it wasn't a BrickFest. 8)

But yeah, it would be nice to have events all over North America. I only got to go because I live in the Pacific Northwest. I never had a chance when they were on the East Coast.

If they did it in Southern California it would be awesome... There's a lego shop down there and everything...

I am afraid the east should have there events, and the west should have theirs. Maybe the mid US could have their own event.

Why? What is so special about the east and the west, aside from perhaps you living there and so you don't have to drive/travel as far?

I am so Megablocks tired of all this "as long as it's in my back yard" mentality that seems to plague the LEGO community. Grow a back bone and grow up. Life isn't fair, it's about compromise. For those who fly anyway, it doesn't matter where it's held, but for those who CAN'T fly, not can't afford to fly - CANNOT physically ride on an airplane lest it kill them, having a centralized location is the most fair to everyone.

I don't think even you could deny the conveniences of a Midwest Tex Lego convention. Wouldn't you just love one of those. All I am saying is..... flying a long place is hard for anyone, so brickfest held in Oregon is hard for people who live any where else.

So why not hold it in Tennessee or Missouri? That's the middle of the country (moreso Missouri than Tennessee), people on the east coast have half the flight time as to the west coast, people on the west coast have half the flight time as to the east coast, and anyone driving has just about the same distance to travel as everyone else with the exception of the corners of the country.

Sure, I'd love to have a big LEGO fest in Texas, but I'd rather have a once a year super-fest where I can meet with EVERYONE than have twenty mini-fests where I see the folks I would see at a normal LUG event anyway.
