There will be a neo-Brickfest at the end of August in Arlington Virginia, named 'Brickfair' due to the conflict in ownership rights to the name 'Brickfest'

I'm sure there will be, I just don't have any info on it. You asked if there was going to be a Brickfest, not a Brickfest PDX (Which I will never accept as the same thing)

Count me in to that one. I cant wait!
Do you think this will be a big fest? Bigger than brickworld? If so, I may have to choose which one to go to.
I hope this is a big one!

I meant to mention PDX actually, but forgot to.
So, my question still stands to anyone who might know:
Is there a BF PDX '08 in the works for spring time?

Well, it could be worse...
I live about 450km north of the US border in central Alberta. If I was going to drive it would be a long time to anywhere. However, if it was something I wanted to do, then I would.
That being said, for me, it would be nice to have it in a place that I would really like to see in addition to the conference. N.Y., Florida, Texas, California would be some of the places I would like to see (or see again in the case of N.Y. and California).
Not to leave out any of the individual states that I am sure have their own charm.
My Helm's Deep likely will not be ready until Christmas '08, so it would be in '09 before it was ready for display. However, maybe I could bring a small MOC &/or large army to the next one.
Realize that wherever it is held - someone is going to have to travel. What about the poor guys/gals in Europe, Asia, Australia... :

In addition there are several gatherings in Germany hosted by 1000Steine like 1000SteineLand, Bricking Bavaria, Frechen; annual(?) ItLUG festival held in Ballabio Italy, gatherings of the Czech, Portuguese, British, French etc groups.Aliencat wrote:heh, we have Lego Worlddoc069 wrote:Realize that wherever it is held - someone is going to have to travel. In Asia the main one I can think of is the annual LMO (LEGO MOC-off) in Japan. There also seem to be regular fan events hosted by the Click-Brick chain of LEGO stores in Japan.
Not sure about regular fests in other nations, though there are LUGs (also LTCs, Mindstorms groups, First LEGO League teams) in other places that gather together.

Brickfest...
If anyone here is actually on one of the Brickfest or Brickcon organizational teams, I would love to volunteer to help. My day job involves doing a LOT of nerd-culture related conventions and I would love to share my humble experiences and offer my elbow grease and free time for the cause...
Feel free to drop me a PM or an e-mail at jameslucasjones [at] gmail . com...

Well since I live near Chicago I guess I would have to say Chicago is great for the event. Luckily we have an event each year here. I know that people want to pick a very central location but once you get west of st louis the population thins out greatly until you reach the rockies or head south into texas... You have to have a large population center to bring non fanatical types to the event. I consider anyone on a lego forum is fanatical. I know I am... The best bet for conventions are the same cities that already host many conventions as the transport, lodging, etc. are reasonable and readily available. Vegas would be a good time...
I am truly shocked that the northeast does not have some sort of Con for legos each year. DC and virginia are not that far but its a bit of a hike from boston i would guess. The NY metro area holds almost 20 milllion people. But i guess DC draws people from areas south as well.
I am also surprised that Legoland doesn't host any events either. It would be like adding attractions for free. I guess all MOC's would have to be OK'd for the kiddie crowds however... Maybe that is a major hurdle.

It does not make sense, the New England, one of the first places to be settled in America, and one of the larger portions of the American population does not have a single yearly fest. I can name four people on the tip of my fingers that would go to a NE fest.
And those are just TFOL's.

EEEGADS!!! This has been a painful thread to read!
I'm leading up the team running BrickFair this year in VA/DC area. I've started a few threads here on cassic-castle, including the recent "BrickFair YouTube video challenge" and "BrickFair, spreading the word..... I think." So it's REEEAALLY sad to read such a thread right here, just 2 threads away from my own, where folks don't know about BrickFair :(
Thank you SavaTheAggie for finally mentioning BrickFair (http://www.BrickFair.com). Although I dunno why the mention of some "conflict." I've never had a conflict with Christina or any owner of the old BrickFest. We never attempted to use the name; we simply started BrickFair. A lot of the same people from the old BF are working on BrickFair now.
jameslucas, I've sent you an email regarding volunteering. I dunno what area you live in, or in what capacity you wanted to help. But gimme a shout and let's see.
As for BrickFair being a "neo-" anything, I dunno what to say. I hope, plan, and expect it to be a fully functional "FESTIVAL" in its own right. Registrations are already at 54 people, and BrickFair is still 7 months away.
Anywho, BrickFair! www.BrickFair.com Hope to see you there.
