Something in say Portland, OR. or Boise, ID, or even somewhere in Washington state is much more do-able for me, but probably not for others here. Unfortunately we don't have the transportation network Europe does to make it more affordable and such (I'm thinking trains specifically).
It's not so much the transportation network Chris, but rather the size. Europe and the East Coast of the US are about the same size, and with similar transportation systems. The distance from Portland, OR (biggest major city to Chris and I) to Legoland California (nearest major city being San Diego) is roughly the same as London to Rome. Chicago to Legoland is like Berlin to Cairo. It's just not practical for most in the West to drive to a con. And drive I must because of the demands of large MOC transportation. I suspect the latter sentence is true for most of us.

BrickCon (nee NWBC) is great for those of us in the Pacific Northwest, and it has brought out a huge amount of castlers as Josh points out. I think it's more of a "build it and they will come" (pun intended) situation where the great and consistent annual con has attracted a lot of us. We had one least one person from back east this last year. I imagine that a similar event in SoCal would do the same? Or any other similar hub-location, surely?

This website is the vehicle that allows us to gather, at least virtually, after all. That must suffice for most of us.

If it is at legoland, i can help get people in at a lower fare then what you would have to normally have to pay, some of you expressed interest at meeting at LL, or in So. Cal. in which case I should be able to go.

I am new to the classic castle website. So hello to all... I have been collecting castle since 1990. Unfortunately the Fright knights and KK1 sent me into a long dark age which I came out of last year.

I am in the Chicago area so I was wondering how many CCers are in the midwest? Luckily I have the Brickworld event in June but I'm hoping to meet some folks and join forces for a large display.

Although I am new and my vote doesn't count I think everyone should meet in Chicago. After all it is central and the cheapest city for everyone to fly into... anyone ever flown with a MOC? Would you have to check it or carry it on?

If you are in Chicago, go to Brickworld. No question! I know Ben goes there as well as me.

I would love a North American castle meet IN New England. No one goes there anymore for their castle meets.

We haven't decided yet. I'm trying to convince my wife to leave the kids with family and have it just be us. I'm also trying to get her to attend the Con as well. Not sure if that will happen...we'll see.

You'd better be. If you weren't there, who would bring the attack kittens?! No one, that's who! BrickCon wouldn't be BrickCon without the kittens (or the Leia army, for that matter). :)

No worries, oh no...Kittenz and Leias will be there in FULL force. Oh yes.

And Armed. Always armed. Right, Nate? ;)

That they did, but in case not everybody knows I have been keeping the NW prefix.

I will be bringing my family, but haven't decided yet if I was going to get them a full registration or not. Alternately, they may just attend the public days - we are still thinking about this one.

That's what I did last year. We got a suite at a nearby hotel and my wife took the kids to all kinds of touristy things, while I did the convention stuff. We thought about registering everyone but there really isn't that much for little kids to do at the Con. If your kids are older, that might be different. My family was happy to just come in for the public hours.

Josh

PS. Caylin's Leia army is definitely a force to be reckoned with. No one messes with the Leias. No one. :)

Leia's Army isn't the only force to be reckoned with. ;)

Someone has to defend Castle against the Space Invasion.

Well, I don't see any point in brining any of my armies if the kittenz and leias will be there. Actually, come to think about it, there really isn't any point in me bringing myself either, if that's the case...

...meh, alright, you've convinced me...and I've convinced Erin. We should be there. Haven't registered yet, but when we get our finances all in line now that stuff has calmed down a bit that reg. page is all mine, er, ours...

Hope to see as many of you as can make it! Just stay aware of the whearabouts of kittens at all times and you'll be fine.

I'll be at BrickCon, of course, and I think two people from my LUG who have never been before are coming!
