Fanwelt 2010

Post by Bruce N H »

Hey all,

LEGO Fanwelt opens today in Cologne, Germany. Use this thread to post photos. One of the MOCs I'm most excited to see more of is the Lowlug Castle display, but by Jalkow, DNL, MOCkingbird, Aliencat and Stuifzand.

Hey guys :)
Reporting live from LEGO Fanwelt in Cologne.
It's absolutely massive, anyone able to attend should definitely make every effort to get here!

Thanks for posting Bruce, I'm planning to post a more detailed report with photos of our collaborative LowLUG Castle Layout, and I'll be sure to point out exactly who made what, when and why ;)

Alright, time to get back to "work" :D
Between plotting to kill you all and chasing balls of yarn, I also build MOCs

I was just about to post a topic about Fanwelt, but i guess i was too slow for the almighty bruce, watcher of the castle MOCs :D

Fanwelt is great, and the scale of some of the creations is massive. There are a few other new castle layouts but most have been on fanwelt before in 2008 (the siege of Minas Tirith for example). I will upload more pictures of our layout and of the rest of the MOCs soon.
EDIT:

Many times, detail is sacrificed when building lareg scale models, here that is certainly not so. A very good build!

What an absolutely monstrous MOC. It has some awesome features. Each section is done so well. You can see the true effort put into each little detail.

That's impressive! The sheer massiveness of it all is quite aweinspiring in itself, but as noted above there's a wonderful attention to detail as well.

Actually I think one of my favourite parts might be the waterfall, is that in Jalkow's section? The harbour nearby is also very nice, the house with the technic pins in this pic particularly caught my attention.

It's also nice to see Seb's castle finished, but some better pics of what's going on beside it would be nice (perhaps there are in your not yet public BS gallery), so far I can discern tentacles and mess, so it has to be cool ;)

The tower part of your own castle also looks really cool, Daniel, and I guess I could go on for a while... ;)

I hope you're having (/have had) an awesome time anyhow!

Thanks for the kind words everyone, we're having a great time here!

Yes, it is, thank you! I built it for the Jolly Roger Contest and liked it so much, I hád to include it.
Decided to make it a bigger challenge and to build it angle-wise.

Aliencat will probably post a bigger story about who built what. I'll tell him to include every link to every picture he can find.
This is the last day, sadly enough, but once I arrive back in Holland, I'll make sure to take a lot of pictures of my section.

EDIT: Oh, and to everyone here in Cologne: make sure to stop by at the Lowlugstand!

Aww you should have come by and said hi! We were part of the large group (LowLUG) with the huge stand behind the Castle layout, with the remote controlled cars and trucks that the kids from the audience could drive around.

Collaborative displays are always highlighted due to their sheer size and their unique techniques not found in on individual builder. This is for sure no exception. The attention to detail on the buildings is simply astounding. Lovely to see you castle elite coming together and getting some work done. Definitely need to do that sometime. Thanks for the inspiration! :)
