I was there! But I'm a Raleigh local so it's not like it was a far trek for me!

I brought the Yellow Castle (expanded from a 3x3 grid to a 5x5 baseplate grid) and village that led up to Dennis's (forget his last name, but a very cool guy from Utah) Monster Movie Homage Castle. The layout was a bit tricky as I had the dimensions of the tables wrong and had to rework it during setup, but it all worked out in the end. I even included a pulley system to get up the mountain/hill. While I've displayed the castle and various parts of the landscaping & village before, this configuration was new with a few newly added sections and details. It has become a very fluid display where the surroundings and landscaping are constantly changing. The show though has given me a lot of inspiration for a big expansion not only to the castle but also with incorporating some fun motion elements into the layout (a Power Functions pulley is on the list).

Dennis (who won best castle - good job man!) and I got to talking about building a Monster Movie village (with perhaps some inspiration from Young Frankenstein) to help fill out his castle, and then try to link it to my ever-expanding village!

Other than Mr. Red's always-growing Viking setup (with crashing waves and seagull sounds), Dennis's monster movie castle, and my castle display there were no other castle MOCs at the show. Kinda disappointing. I was able to grab up some classic castle shields (the site logo design and the gray oval shields) from the vendors, but there wasn't anything else classic-castle related for sale... also a bit disappointing. That's something I hope to work on for next year.

Overall the show was a lot of fun! I highly encourage all CCers to make the trek to the show next year as it's a very good environment to get to know your fellow builders and forge new friendships while fostering existing ones.

Well I am currently around that area and will have to attend if I am still in the area.
