I will be there for sure. There really isn't much that will keep me from being there, I live like 3 minutes away from the expo center. Will the collab just be a collection of builds, or one giant build?

TBD on that one. WHile we don't want to get too ambitious at first, there's so many things that can be done. At this point though I'd like Joshua to guide the proceedings. He could start by listing the options which have been discussed so far, to generate conversation. At some point though we will need to start narrowing down options and then finally a general vote.

Well, I'm still coming up with the money and logistics of getting there, so I guess put me down as a "maybe". I'll definitely be there one of the public days if I can't figure out how to display though!

Oh that's right! Silly me, I even made suggestions on some torsos for you. It completely slipped my mind

Right, you're on the list as a maybe. I sure hope you can display with us though.

Ok, since I brought it up, I was also wondering, around how much do you guys plan on budgeting for the fair? Right now I've got it estimated at around to $1000 mark for all expenses ( Food, Hotel, Gas, Misc. Costs, etc.) from Wednesday to Sunday. I live outside of Richmond, so my gas cost is going to be a little different than others, but unless you're coming from Quebec, I think our budgets will be around the same. I ask because this'll be my first year, and want to know if my budget is around the right price mark, or if I seem to be missing something.

So, assuming you check in Weds, and check out Monday morning (5 nights):

- Hotel right now is running $103.50 +6%VA tax+4%town tax = $113.85 x 5 = $569.25 [you need to book NOW before this rate goes. Be sure to mention you are with Brickfair]
- Food will run you about $5 for breakfast, $12 for lunch, and $15 for dinner, average. THere are lots of places to eat there. $35 x 5 = $175 max
- $52 for to display, should pay this no later than June 30
- Gas?

So I think you are about right. You should have maybe about $50 to $100 for LEGO splurge while there, depending on how much you spend on food.

ALL: While we are talking about $$$: Personally, I do NOT recommend the venders, unless you don't mind used LEGO and buy from the one vender in the corner who sells $10 for a small ziplock bag free-pick, or $15 for a gallon-size ziplock. Save your money for the "Yard Sale" on Saturday and get to that really early. THis is for anyone who wants to sell or buy, and the deals are infintely better than the vampire venders (who upcharge like Outlaws).

Thanks for all the useful information Gary. I was wondering about the vendors. I'll have to stay clear from them now.

Joshua, I plan on attending the event. I've already registered, have a couple of MOC's registered and would like to put involved in an LCC collab somehow. However, all of my LCC troops are committed to my builds ATM. That may change though.

I don't think I'll be able to attend, but could I maybe mail a box of LCC information cards (with a cape on the back)
To one of you guys (preferably SSchmidt or AK_Brickster) to take with you when you go?

Jordan, AK, lives in Washington I believe, so I don't think he'll be in attendance :tasty:

Which vendors do you not recommend? All of them, or just the brick retailers? I usually only buy from other vendors like BrickArms, and Citizen Brick, but I always hear about the guy you described but can never find him. Also, I've heard of the Yard Sale, but what sorts of things do people actually put out there? Oh and finally, didn't Lenfald have a challenge a while back where you had to beg your citizens to pay your outlandish taxes? :P

Thanks BTW.

Okay, you're on the list. Depending on what we decide to build, we may need those troops,
so we'll need to figure it out. Looking forward to meeting you.

Zachary,
1. I can show you which vender I am refering to, but again it's only if you don't mind used, and I do mean used, LEGO. I only use this stuff for infrastructure, never surface (viewable) LEGO. And since I never buy brick-knock-offs I wouldn't know the skinny on them (yep, proud purist). I am refering mainly to the ones selling minifigs and with LEGO separated into bags mounted on racks. You'll pay around 1.25 to 1.5 times what you can get them for on Bricklink.
2. You see all sorts of things at the Yard Sale; CMFs and other figs, bags of elements, sets, etc. Not everything is a good deal, but watch who's the busiest and generally they are the ones with the goodies....generally.
3. Hmm. I don't remember that one, maybe prior to my joining in November 2012.

Oh, those guys. Yeah I usually steer clear, although once and a while they have OK deals. Also, I consider myself a third party purist.

Ah, maybe it was before your time. But it did happen! I made plenty of jokes about it!

Great news everyone!
We now have our own Lands of Classic Castle Collaboration on the Brickfair VA website :D . What this means is gauranteed space to display together: No land-grab for us! 8) There will be a place on the map reserved for us, and the Theme Lead should lay out paper signs for us on the tables. Remember, this space is not just for our joint-build (whatever that will be) but also for any LCC-themed MOCs that you bring.

But Todd only knows the true amount of space if you register your MOCs properly. I have already switched over 2 of my registered MOCs to LCC, so if you have already registered a few it's OK, just edit them (SSchmidt).

The procedure for registering your MOCs in LCC BFVA Collab is as follows:

1. When registering a MOC (the sooner, the better by the way), the second screen asks, "Where Will You Display?" There are two drop down menus; Ignore the first one and go with the second drop down menu just below it: "Select a collaborative if you know you are welcome to join that display:" = you are of course. Select the interestingly-named Lands of Classic Castle Colloboration (LCC) item.

2. Click Next for the rest of the process.

Clear as mud? This procedure gives Todd the exact amount of space needed for the collab. There's fudge room built in by an algorithm which allows for some buffering between MOCs, so SSchmidt's "Long-live my nasty Queen" MOCs don't have to sit touching Lord Mercat's "Off with her head!" MOCs.

Speaking which...what are we building together guys? Can't wait too long to discuss this.

Sounds good!

I'm all for the earlier suggestion of some kind of giant siege or battle of some kind. With any luck, the way the LCC is currently progressing, by the time of the fair the rebellion against the queen should be in full-swing. As such, I think we should make a siege by the combined forces of several Roawian resistance groups against a large army of the Queen. This would be especially cool if set against the backdrop of a large castle/fortification, etc. What do you guys think? I have a good number of things that would prove pretty useful for such an event. I also think that one of the major Roawian cities, for example, the gates of Stonewald, would be perfect for the setting, as with (hopefully) a decent number of contributors, showing off the retaking, or defense of one of the larger cities would be ideal.

An idea just came to me,

What if we had a trail of different MOCs each continuing a certain characters journey through Roawia. So it would be kinda like this format at BFVA:

Image

1. A MOC depicting Some character, for idea sake let's call him Timmy, starting his journey in the Magic Isles.

2. A MOC depicting Timmy traveling/ leaving the Magic Isles.

3. A MOC depicting Timmy arriving/ traveling through Loreos.

4. A MOC depicting Timmy doing something in Lenfel.

5. A MOC depicting Timmy doing something in Garheim.

6. A MOC depicting Timmy finishing his journey through Roawia.

Obviously, that is just a rough format. There can be more/ less MOCs to his journey. I just thought this idea would make it possible for every faction to be shown. Each MOC could be a 32x32 or something.

Thoughts?
