Brickfair Virginia 2014 Coordination Thread

Dates are August 2-3, 2014

Who all is going to be there?

What are you guys building?

Any ideas on collaboration?

Anyone want to collaborate an LCC build?

Figured I would go ahead and start the ball rolling on this. We have plenty of time to coordinate (and make sure ALL of us can meet up!). :eyebrows:
If you have any questions about Brickfair Virginia they can be answered here.

I'd love to go, as I have never been to a lego convention. I'd also be interested in doing an LCC collab. :)

Where in Virginia is it?

Chantilly. It is on the western outskirts of
Washington DC.

I would be very interested in going to Brickfair Virginia '14 since I (like RBC) have never been to a convention before.

The drive would be a fair distance for me, but if we could pull in enough people for an LCC project, that would be more than enough incentive! I can't guarantee what my schedule will look like next year, but I'll see if I can make it work. :)

Who all is going to be there?

I probably will be.

What are you guys building?

Possibly modern collab with the JJ bros, otherwise dunno.

Any ideas on collaboration?

A large city, a little like Tigelfah Castle?

Anyone want to collaborate an LCC build?

I'd like it, but it depends if I'm doing the modern era collab.

I plan on attending this year. I'd most likely be looking to be part of a collab project, whether for LCC or any other project. I do think I big LCC collab would be pretty cool if we pulled it off. Does anyone have any ideas for a display? I suggested that we build part of each faction's capital city. That way we represent each faction's flavor and spirit. This would only work if we had enough members of each faction though. So I think we're still open to suggestions. The only thing I'd be slightly opposed to would be a giant battle scene.

I will definitely be there; it will be my 6th year in a row. While I am one of the lead collaborators for the Civil War display and also the Pharaoh's Labyrinth collab, I will aslo participate in an LCC collab. We don't have to go all in one like STEAM. We can build vignettes in a theme. For example check out our Civil War Display: http://www.flickr.com/photos/80813941@N ... hotostream This was very effective and drew a lot of crowds even though the Civil War is nowhere near as popular as Castle.

Or we could all build one big collab that fits together. Since there are different factions present, we could meet in the middle by building something neutral like the King's...er, now Evil Queen's , castle and island. Or we could go with the capital idea, but even then there would have to be some coordination as there's more than one Lenfel, etc.

I think the problem with coming up with display ideas is that the LCC is constantly changing and moving in terms of story, and even members. What is relevant today, will most likely have little to do with the story when we display in August of next year.

Now is that necessarily a bad thing? No. If we were to portray the Queen's take over of the factions of our choosing for instance, it wouldn't make a difference to the public who wouldn't know that the Queen's takeover was "old news". But I do believe that if we were to do a major story line event that so far the Queen's takeover would be the easiest. The Queen's troops are easy to get a hold of, and are currently universal in the story. By universal I mean that all factions have some kind of interaction with them. We could portray a town from each faction being taken over, under control, and probably later rebelling against the Queen's forces.

I do like the idea of the King's/Queen's castle. Whatever we decide to do I think it needs to be something either universal or something neutral (Like the King's/Queen's castle) Anyone have any other ideas?

Also, if me attending does become finalized I would need to either room with someone or someone would need to rent an extra room. I'll be just shy of 18 in August (My birthday is Sept. 6) so I wouldn't be able to rent my own room. I'll most likely be there for the minimum 3 nights. I'd be able to pay you the cost of the room if you do help me out.

I am in agreement with a neutral build or something that is universal.
I will be bringing my entire army of Outlaws along with (hopefully) a large scale castle. I think I will be building a couple of Star Wars related items. After that, I am open to just about anything.

So after looking at my schedule, attending Brickfair is still a maybe for me. I'm free at the moment, but depending on the time and other external factors, I may or may not be able to make it.

Does anybody know the times that the event would be running from? I definitely won't be their during a Sunday morning, but all day Saturday and Sunday afternoon/evening would certainly be a possibility.

I can't say if I will or will not be going as of right now. Our family might be moving to England next year and if that is the case I won't be going to any American conventions. But if we don't I plan on going to LEGOPalooza, hopefully BrickWorld, and definitely BrickFair Virginia. :D '

I will probably know a little more in January-ish. :tasty:

I'd love to go. It would be my 5th year going. I love it, every year I see so many great creations, buy a ton of loot and meet loads of people. For me the best part is meeting all the people, finding out how they got into it and what makes them continue building.
But right now, I'm not sure if I'll be able to go. It depends on how things go during the next several months. And if I can, I probably won't build/bring anything this time.

Just as a tip, I think you'd be best served by only commenting if you are planning on, or reasonably expect to attend, so that the focus of the thread can be on coordinating amongst attendees. It's pretty irrelevant to this discussion to comment that you won't be coming :?
