agreed ... it's even more amusing from my perspective from "Down Under"Blueandwhite wrote:Seriously, the amount of chest-thumping and ego pushing in these America vs. Europe threads is enough to make a man sick.

Chest-thumping and ego pushing? Interesting. I thought it was a conversation on whether or not Americans are generally as interested in films involving European history as Europeans are.Seriously, the amount of chest-thumping and ego pushing in these America vs. Europe threads is enough to make a man sick.
Odd that you got 'chest-thumping' and ego out of that.

By what? I mean - everyone will have their own way of interpreting things. I'm more curious and interested than anything else. That is - to how you came to your opinion. Did it come off as a 'my country is better than yours?' I certainly didn't see it that way, but I was in the conversation. Can't see the forest for the trees and all that. Are you offended?

Honestly, I find people become very touchy when this sort of topic is discussed. Sweeping generalizations about both Americans and Europeans (of which, I am neither) are thrown around with reckless abandon. Heck, you even chastised another member for expressing what was nothing more than an unsubstantiated opinion. Sure, he may have being snide, but was your response really any different?Damien wrote:By what? I mean - everyone will have their own way of interpreting things. Honestly, when comparisons between the US and Europe arise, people seem to get really edgy. I always hope that these sorts of discussions could go smoothly, but they seem to become personal far too quickly.
