What did knights wear in civilian life?

Well, the title pretty much says it. I'm thinking just before the widespread use of gunpowder. Also, where could I buy/get instructions to make such an outfit?

I would imagine that a knight would just wear typical civilian clothing. Depending on the knight's wealth, his clothing could be either plain or elaborate, I suppose.
I've tried making medieval clothes, without success. I have bought a small wardrobe from online retailers, such as the ones below:

www.renstore.com
www.by-the-sword.com

I haven't bought from any of the shops below, but probably will in the future:

www.tudorshoppe.com
www.ravensmoon.com

You might also try a fabric/craft store around Halloween (or anytime of the year, really) for patterns, as well as eBay for patterns and clothing. Hope this helps.

One of the best places for period clothing AND footwear.

Another good place.

To answer your question though, Dr.Sparkles nailed it.
Knights were people, just like everyone else. They just
had more money, and a higher status.
And that varied as well.

Thanks. I knew that knights wore pretty much what everyone else did, but I didn't know what all that would be and include. Thanks again!
