Vianden Castle is really impressive. I was passing it when driving through Luxembourg.

Hammershus on Bornholm in Denmark (sadly just a ruin now) looks quite good..

Re: Greatest castles
The Great Wall is great but as you mentioned, it isn't a castle. I respect the majesty of the Great Wall but I have a greater fondness for enclosed structures.Albatross_Viking wrote:Hammershus on Bornholm in Denmark (sadly just a ruin now) looks quite good..

Re: Greatest castles
Haha my mistake I meant to say castle builders. It follows then that the best castles will come from the best castle builders. Well just to keep the cat in order I will say Estuary Stronghold by Eggy and then Brickistan by Sandy.Aliencat wrote:I don't think you've read what this thread was really about before you replied, did you?Blego7 wrote:Over on MOCpages Professor Eggplant gives us a huge list of the best builders.

Re: Greatest castles
HAHAHA!!! woops.... That's one way to start off your cc-career! So I would say Bodiam Castle in England and then Fortaleza castle in Dominican Republic because it has a really diverse style and is the first castle in the Americas. *goes and cries in corner.

He who thinks you should look at the box that says "Quaraga" if you want to find out his username (about as useful to you as his real name). he only wants you to look so he can laugh about you looking there because he's a total smart...

Re: Greatest castles
I don't think I have visited enough castles in enough countries to make a declaration for one country over another. However, the only castle I have visited that made me feel like I might be stepping into a storybook was Burg Eltz in Germany.

I think one of the nicest looking is Bodiam castle, England

England/Wales would be my first choice.Sir Ninja Pilot wrote:I was just wondering which country you guy's think had the greatest castles? (I think France.)
The castles built by King Edward I are some of the best examples of medieval military architecture.

Re: Greatest castles
Well there are so many in Europe. But these are among my favourite castles - only 8 of over 10000 in Germany which are still standing. So it is really difficult to make a decision.
