Wanted: New kk2 horse helmets, armor and/or barding!

Post by Commander Redbeard »

I'm willing to talk with anyone who has a good deal on any KK2 horse helmets, shields or barding and any sort of armour. I have some surplus spears n' other weapons I'm willing to trade, as well as other castle, star wars, and Adventurers parts and some Orient Expedition and KK2 cards I'm desperate to get rid of. If you need any details, post and I can get in contact with you.

Firelight dancing off burnished blade
A Forestman sits
Wondering about the next day
But after three mugs of ale
Let it bring what it may.

Your willing to undertake a non-monitored transaction?

Anyhow, its still rather early since the KK2 release for anyone to have a "good" amount.

I have Vladek's dark red barding and horse helm, but thats it for now. Don't ask for trades with me when it comes to stuff like this.... I hoard these types of pieces for my Ancients armies. Look at my BrickShelf link below & click on the pic with the Mongol cavalry charge.

The best way to get massive amounts of what you are looking for is to buy lots of set #8777s "Vladek Encounter" in stores. They're under $9.00 a set.

I think its better for you to go here if you only want just the bardings, shields, armor, & horse helm:

Looks that way to me.

Too bad they should cost $5.

Vladek encounter has 2 fully armored knights, and something that Lego has never done before with small sets... a fully armored horse. Not to mention that little catapult. That should at least cost 2x more than the Black Knight set which was around $4 to $5 IIRC.

The black knight was $2.50 or $3

For comparable sized sets, Castle Guard was $5 and Black Monarch's Ghost was $7, and both of those included small buildings in addition to one mounted and one foot soldier.

Sure, the Vladek Encounter has 2 armors and a horse barding, but the catapult is nothing. It's just a couple small useless parts stuck together to make it appear as if you are getting more. Even factoring for inflation, Vladek Encounter should cost no more than $7. It really is just a double minifig pack. They used to sell minifigs in packs of 5 or 6 for $5. Maybe if TLC didn't spend so much money creating new molds for those terrible visors and swords we wouldn't have to pay so much to get the few salvageable parts in that set.

$3.25 for the Black Knight (and I even double-checked with the Lugnet database).

Comparing prices then and now is futile. Think of it this way: on Bricklink, you are going to be lucky to pay $3 for a barding, and $4 for two armor pieces. Add the helmets, two figs, horse, shield, weapons, chamfron and it will be a whole lot more than $9.

It would have been nice if they had dumped the catapult and and lowered the price to $7.00-$8.00.

Yeah, I know what Lugnet says, I looked at it while writing my post, but I have never seen a store around here sell any LEGO set for a price ending in .25, and I know that I did not pay more than $2.50 or $3 for the Black Knight and it was not on sale. I still have the box and it probably has the price tag, but I don't want to dig it out at the moment.

Anyway, I don't know where Lugnet gets their prices, but they all seem to list some odd amount above what they actually cost. I sometimes wonder if some of the LUGNET prices came from Europe and were converted to US Dollars from various currencies.

Think of it this way: on Bricklink, you are going to be lucky to pay $3 for a barding, and $4 for two armor pieces.
That's because most of the BrickLink sellers part out the sets at a 300% profit. Anyway, I wouldn't consider myself lucky to be overcharged for parts from BrickLink or TLC. Personally, I think TLC priced this set so high because they know AFOLs will want a bunch of bardings and armors and they want to make up for 2003's losses.

Don't you remember? TLC used to always have odd prices. Remember all those sets that were priced like $8.75 or $16.25. Dig out your old catalogs. You'll see what I'm talking about.

Here, I have in front of me a 1996-1997 S@H catalog.

A few examples of odd prices:

6556 for $8.75
6564 for $6.25
6854 for $6.75
6553 for $13.25
6331 for $16.50

...the list goes on.

This is because until a couple years ago S@H catalogs used to include the shipping charge as part of the price of the item. As such, S@H catalogs are NOT a good source for actualy MSRP pricing.

This is highly inaccurate. A seller is LUCKY to get back double his money on a set, and that is only on sets that are "good" for parting out. And that is assuming that ALL the parts actually sell.

Yeah, I knew that. I just did not realize LUGNET got their prices from S@H catalogs until I read Snoopy's post.

Yeah, I was exaggerating a bit there. I should not have. Regardless, I do think certain parts have pretty silly prices on BL.

For example, I find it pretty hard to swallow that the average price for a used dark grey armor is over $3 when I can remember buying sets like Black Monarch's Ghost for $5.49. (and that comes from a sticker on my BMG boxes.) Man, if they only sold something like that now days... I know it would end up being like $7 from inflation, but still a great buy. Far superior to Vladek Encounter.

Even Vladek Encounter would seem acceptable at $7, but $9 is ridiculous. It would have to be on sale just to get down to an okay price.

Do you really think so or are you just expressing frustration? As much as I might want the set to be cheaper, or at least cheaper by dumping the catapult, it seems to be in line with the pricing of other Lego sets.

Maybe the carp they come out with like Jack Stone is what is driving up the regular Lego system scale set prices. :x

Even better:

I just opened up my MISB 6044 that I got for my birthday. It had small S@H catalog in it. It listed set 5138...

http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv ... -1&v=1&b=0

Note that this set has TWO of the Dark Gray Armor, as well as many other cool parts. For the low, low price of $3.50! (And yes, this is the inflated "shipping included" price, but I don't think you could get it anywhere else)

Of course, that set is 10 years old.

That is a nice accessory pack. That one must have come out shortly after I entered my dark age, since it has a WolfPack shield with it. Good stuff there. There were some very very good minifig and accessory packs in the late 80s and early 90s.

It's rather sad that the current accessory pack is $5+ shipping, but the bulk discount lets you get it for as low as $4.25 which isn't as bad, especially if you get it around October or November when they have their free shipping promotion going on. Still, including visor helms without armors seems rather odd. The current pack seems as if it was created to get rid of a bunch of extra ninja accessories (or use up the molds) more than anything else.

I dread the next accessory pack. It will probably have armors in 5 colors, but also include those dumb swords in a bunch of colors. Sadly, that pack would sell well if TLC made it, just because of the armor.
